A Fresh Start

After your parent's divorce a few months ago, you and your older sister had decided to stay with your mother and move to a new house in the London suburbs for a fresh start. This was not ideal as you were about to start your last year of high school, you had complained. But your mother had argued that it would do you and your sister some good to change environment. You now lived in a much nicer suburban neighbourhood within walking distance of your new high school.

Since you had moved in a few days before school started, your mother had insisted on trying to make you mingle with the new neighbourhood. She was afraid that your shy nature would make it hard for you to get friends once school started.

So there you were now, stuck at a neighbourhood party at your neighbour's house. At least your mother was having fun, you thought as you stood next to her while she chatted happily with your neighbour Mrs Moore.

"Oh, Alice!" Mrs Moore suddenly called to her daughter who had just entered the room. "Why don't you take John here upstairs and tell him about the school" she continued, smiling.

"Sure mum" she replied happily leading you to the stairs.

You quickly realized you had little choice in the matter and followed suite.
