A Time of War

You've probably heard tell of what hell might be like. Usually described as a place of fire, death, and chaos. I'd guess you've heard priests would talk about it during sermons, or you would be told that's where you were heading if you did anything wrong. I'd also imagine none of you expected to get first hand experience of what it was like, much less before you even died. Well, I have. What I saw when I got back, I'll never forget. There was fire, fire everywhere. On the houses, the fields, even the people. And the screams. Oh god the screams. Just from hearing them, I could almost feel every ounce of agony that they felt. I almost ran in to see if I could help until I saw what started the fire. Orcs. Just seeing them sent shivers down my spine. Looking human but with some facial features of pig and green or brown skin, Orcs were muscle on top of muscle, with extra muscle just in case they didn't have enough. They showed no mercy as they moved through the village, burning and pillaging as they went. And all I could do was watch

That's when I found out what real Hell was like.

I was frozen, watching from behind a bush as my entire life was wiped off the face of the world right in front of me. I couldn't move a muscle. And when I did regain some amount of control, instead of running in and valiantly defending my friends and family, I ran. Like a coward. I hid in the forest, hoping that the Orcs wouldn't find me. And I stayed that way, hiding for two long weeks.
