Another World

It would become the night to remember. It was the night when everything changed. There was no explosion to announce it, no flash of light, no trumpet sound from heaven. Between one moment and the next my world was gone, and some kind of purgatory had taken it's place.

I was asleep in my condo when I noticed the silence. The constant everyday hum of our modern world had stopped. It woke me but I wasn't concerned. I yawned and pulled myself out of bed to go flip the breakers. It was darker than a cave in my bedroom, even the lights of my alarm clock were absent. My Body itched and it felt like I'd been sleeping twisted, every muscle I had ached.

I flipped the breakers and Nothing. When I glanced out the window I noticed that the entire block was down. No lights as far as I could see. It was unusual in a big city like I lived in but I figured maybe someone hit a transformer. I shrugged, flipped on the lights in the house so they would wake me when they went back on and went back to bed.

The next thing I knew the sun woke me as it streamed in golden bliss acrossed the bed. I blinked and pulled my pillow over my head to try to avoid it then cursed as I realized what that meant. I was officially late for work.

I jumped out of bed and headed for the shower. It was only when I caught my reflection in the mirror that I stopped short.
