James had done relatively well for himself. At 23, through with college on scholarships alone, and living in his own two bedroom house he'd never given much thought to the "what-if's" in life. Even two years ago, when the news not only confirmed the existence of UFO's and aliens, but an FBI agent had been hosted on a live report confirming aliens. The U.S. Government, along with several others from around the globe including Great Britain and Japan, had been harboring them in secret locations around the globe.

Area "S" the FBI named it, as James recalled, had been one of these areas for the Novaxans for the last 60 years. Apparently the world governments had been speaking with the fragments of an alien race in need of safe harbor. Things like Area 51 were red herrings to throw people off. Who would've guessed that that was the "luxury" base used to give agents a rest without compromising operations?

Even with that report, James had dismissed the notion of ever seeing one. They were supposed to already have waiting homes with verified people. Sort of like a foster program on an even tighter set of regulations. No "what-if's" to be had. Which was precisely why, when he had stepped out behind his home he hadn't had any thought or consideration as to "what-if" he happened to find a dead one on his lawn. He panicked, nearly fainting when the shiny blue surface of the naked Novaxan had come into view in the middle of the night. He had to struggle to remember what he'd heard that day. They were amphibious, but needed water now and then if they were to survive on land. Otherwise he found himself lost, and rushed to its body, not knowing what he would do.
