Clara-May

Clara-May never had many friends. Or any really. Her mother was a well-known visitor of the local pub, almost every night. Even after she met a man willing to marry her, a new guy in town. Roger. He was an average looking bloke, muscly from all the construction work.

Her mother thought getting a bloke with a steady job would be enough to give her some respectability get out of the trailer they lived in, steady money to buy things. And it did. When Clara-May was 16 they moved into a somewhat modest house on acreage on the boarder of town.

Her creed growing up was always, what would I have to do to leave this town. Leave being known as trailer trash. She tried to do it through schoolwork hoping to have good enough grades to get a scholarship or something to leave for college but no matter how she tried she never got the type of grades that would make a difference. No one was willing to give the daughter of a woman with a reputation like her mothers got, even after marriage.

Even if they didn’t live in a trailer anymore, it didn’t stop her being known as town trash. Even though she dressed modestly never had a boyfriend and never even kissed anyone.

One week before her 18th birthday tragedy struck. Her mother, getting a lift home from the pub on one of the rare night Roger didn’t join her. She died in a car crash, with no life insurance to her name, even though Roger had tried to get her to get some.

Clara-may had no other family but Roger now, and 6 more months of high school. Just because she was a legal adult. She knew she had nowhere to go and no one else to turn to. Whats a girl to do?
