Close Encounters

Two years ago the governments of the world brought to light an answer to the age old question: are we alone in the universe?

The answer was an astonishing no, and came with the news that for the last 60 years an amphibious race we called the Novaxans had already been sharing our underground. Deals had been being made and hashed out over the decades between their leaders and our own across the globe. An agency called the Novaxan Placement Program was created, assigning Novaxans who signed up with foster homes that were selected carefully for caring providers as host families. Almost none of the Novaxans understand any human languages, communicating with gestures and colors they emit from an array of bioluminescent nodes along their bodies. This can make some communication with host families difficult, but guidelines affirm to keep communication minimal as the Novaxan elder councils agree that they wish to keep their culture pure. The placement program was devised as a temporary solution to the growing cabin fever among the naturally aquatic guests while an underwater city would be crafted in the Pacific Ocean by the various world governments.

The stories here take place in this world, to see through the eyes of humans or Nova as they journey through their personal stories.
