Greetings and Salutations your Majesty,
It is with a heavy heart that I tell you of the events that transpired this day in the Land of Ala-Ska. Late last night a fire breathing worm, nay a veritable dragon swooped down on one of our outlying settlements and destroyed it as well as driving off the herd of cows the villagers kept.
Their granaries were destroyed and we shall be hard pressed to feed them over the next year. My brother Calico being the upstanding knight that he is immediately went to their aid. He took a dozen men at arms as well as myself with him. I felt that we would not be needed for is not one knight the equal of one dragon? No matter how big the dragon!
As we neared the village we saw the devastation that had been wrought upon the village and His Grace called upon the white god to deliver justice upon the worm that had done this. He drew forth his sword and kneeling amidst the wreckage he prayed reverently as a true knight would. He stayed kneeling for a score of minutes before arising and mounting his horse.
Without a backwards glance he rode off at a gallop. He made no sign to us but we being his sworn liegemen followed him. He rode as a man possessed out of the village and through the outlying farms. We followed as best we could. He led us a merry chase up into the mountains. When we finally caught up to him he was girding himself for battle. We begged him not to go for that soft black armor that he wears is susceptible to heat. But he would not be swayed.
“God is with me my brother, I will not fail.” Were the last words he spoke to me before he walked in to the valley where the worm was feeding.
We watched in awe as he challenged the worm. The worm itself was awesome to behold. It rose back on its haunches blood dripping from its mouth. As it looked at my brother we were able to look at it as well and I must admit I found it beautiful to look upon. Its body was red with jewels encrusted in its belly. It glittered in the sun, there was a veritable fortune there. As my eyes followed the body up and up I was amazed at how big it was. It must have stood forty feet high at the shoulder and its long neck rose half again the length of the body. Its head was fearsome, fangs as big as your arm and a forked tongue that darted in and out as if searching for something. Its eye’s were glowing pools of liquid fire and they seemed to drip intelligence.
Calico advanced upon it and it looked at him as if he had lost his mind. Our entire party pretty much thought that to be true as well. The worm attempted to smite him but his black armor proved its merit as he dodged one swipe and returned a slice of his own. We all saw the blade hit that massive paw but we could discern no appreciable damage to the worm.
Calico closed with the worm and began to hack at its body. He seemed to be carving footholds out of it as we began to see him scale the great beast. He was more than 15 feet above the ground when the worm decided it had had enough. It reached down it’s head on that impossibly limber neck and plucked Calico from its body a dog might pluck a flea. Rearing into the sky it spat Calico out as if he were a bad tasting morsel.
Calico’s body flew over us as if thrown from a trebuchet. We saw him arc down the mountain to land in a boneless heap. We immediately went to offer him aid. We found him lying in a heap. Where I checked for a pulse and found it lacking. I stood up and swore a mighty oath.
“I Joseki Ko will avenge the death of my brother against this vile worm!”
“Excuse me milord, but it doesn’t appear that he is actually dead.” Spoke one of the men at arms.
“Then I will avenge my mortally wounded brother! For be it be not right that…”
“Excuse me Milord but he’s not mortally wounded.”
“Then for my wounded brother I shall undertake this quest to…to…”
“Excuse me milord but it looks like he’s going to be just fine.”
THUD, went the Captain’s mace as it connected with Calico’s skull.
“Yes and just when it looked like he would recover he was suddenly struck dead. I shall avenge my brother and I call on you your Majesty to defend your realm and remove the scourge from the land.”
