Gypsy Designs Ch. 09

I'm sorry for the delay. A house full of sick people has made writing and editing a chaotic experience to say the least.

Lucien stood in the darkness a skilled sentential able to mask his existence so well, even someone as talented as Caydn wasn't able to sense his presence. He'd restrained himself from acting as a voyeur. The sounds and breathing he'd heard while sitting casually on the top of the rock wall surrounding Caydn's property had painted a visual image for him of what was happening so viewing wasn't needed.

His heart tightened hearing the sharp gasp that had escaped Gypsy, knowing the purr that followed could've only been created by the pleasure of teeth sinking deep into soft yielding flesh. The erotic sensations that overwhelmed the senses, created that distinctive purr when someone gave themselves during such an exchange. He hoped Caydn knew what he was doing and more so that Gypsy understood what she'd offered and the consequences she'd experience in return.

Protector and guardian was his place in this intricately woven web. One he took seriously and bound his life to its completion and success. Having heard them go inside he stepped through the gate, removing all traces of the lovers tryst, covering the hot tub, gathering forgotten clothing. Hesitating he felt the chill of evil lurking somewhere in the tree line, launching himself to the top of the wall he looked out prepared to meet anything, Damone or the mere mortal Barton sent to harm Gypsy or Caydn either one.

Throwing his head back he released a silent roar, only heard by those of his kind and by those who dabbled in the evil arts. Those of his race would smile knowing a guardian was present. The evil ones would shutter in their skin, understanding he now stood in position ready to face them and remove them from this plane of life to another.

Giving the walled in area one last look Lucien found himself shaking his head. Unlike Caydn, Phillip and Christian he'd chosen his path in life as that of a solitary being. He had the ability to live and walk among each race that lived but he'd not adapted himself to their life styles in order to remain among them.

His time was spent high in the mountains of Romania when he was not doing what ever was possible to assure the safety of one of his own or someone connected to them. From time to time he would come down and join the local people or a gathering of those he'd known for centuries. For the most part he was a loner now. Being one of the elders allowed him this luxury. He thrived in his solitude.

Leaping into the air he planned his surveillance of the surrounding area before retiring to Christian's for the coming day. Chuckling to himself he wondered how the sleek sports car he knew Cadyn kept would respond to his touch. It had been some time since he'd used his friends' adapted mode of travel as opposed to his own.

Gypsy sat back on the floor looking at the wild chaotic assortment of colors and textures surrounding her. Laughing she glanced at Sophie sitting in a chair frantically writing notes before tossing the paper and pen to the table beside her.

"Can you believe all this?" Gypsy said shaking her head. "I've got to figure out where to put it," she closed her eyes. "It would be so much easier using the shop, but hell I hadn't even had time to have the shelves built there to hold fabric bolts," she fell back on the floor staring at the ceiling.

Sophie glanced at her watch, "You were going to use that young man Vince gave you the number for weren't you?" she asked, smiling when Gypsy nodded yes. "Call him dear. Tell him there has been a change in plans. Have he and some of his crew come out today, and see what he says," she explained.

"Who ever heard of a guest house having three bedrooms anyway," Sophie rolled her eyes, standing up walking to each door. "Have one room for fabric, I'm sure once they moved the furniture out, this room would work wonderfully with the racks you need lining the walls." She smiled, going to the next room, "this one a changing room for your clients."

"Sophie what would Caydn say if I remodeled his guest house?" she asked sitting up. Watching her aunt with her paper and pen, making notes as she walked to each room, "I also have the shop I rented. And it comes with a years lease, leaning heavily on the option to purchase. What would I do with that space when I'm finally free to move around and not be locked behind the gates of the estate?" She made a face, giggling when Sophie frowned at her.

"You know this is for your protection Gypsy. It's not meant to make you a prisoner or anything of those sorts. Surely you understand it's easier to maintain and contain one safe area than it would be two, especially with them so far apart," she explained.

Gypsy stood up, walking over she squeezed Sophie's shoulder before walking to each door. Mentally visualizing what it would look like as she suggested. "I know, but I still can't help but feel that all this disruption is my fault," she sighed leaning against a door frame. "Do you really think Caydn wouldn't mind?" she smiled. "I can see this being where I'd do exclusive work. Maybe some time soon setting the shop up for everyday clothing, like a boutique of my own designs."

"As I said, call the young man now and see if he can come out immediately. Tell him the work's for Vince. I'm sure you'll get a quick response since he's done many repair jobs over the past few years here for us," Sophie laughed when Gypsy pulled her cell phone out and dialed.

"Well it'll be first thing in the morning before they can get here," Gypsy sighed. "But he said he'd bring three or four men with him and they'd be able to get started right then," she laughed. Stopping suddenly, noticing someone standing at the door of the guest house. Glancing at Sophie she nodded to the door, only to gasp when she looked back, the man was gone.

She felt a chill move down her arms, the hair on her neck stood up when Sophie looked back at her questioningly. "I thought I saw someone's all," she said, casually running her hand up and down her arms trying to rub the chill away. "Lets go back to the house, take these lists you've made and see if Vince can help us with some designs for the shelves." She grinned, looping her arm in her aunt's walking toward the main house, her eyes surveying the grounds and tree line around them.

Gypsy grabbed the car keys, assuring Vince she'd only go to Christian and Megan's coming back immediately with Jaz and Phillip in tow. Caydn laughed at her expression before nodding for Lucien to follow him, glancing at Vince and Sophie he noted their concerned expressions.

Pulling up the drive of the massive estate she smiled when she saw the lights glowing in the darkness. She hadn't left Cadyn's since the last visit from Barton at the shop. Looking around slowly, she chuckled realizing she was acting as if Barton would jump out from behind each bush to confront her.

Jaz met her at the door, "Come in," she smiled. "I have to see if Phillip is off the phone, then we'll be ready to leave," she said starting up the stone staircase. "Micah and Sam went to grab some pizza of all things," she laughed, "they said they'd meet us all there."

"I think Christian and Megan are in the music room," Jaz said over her shoulder. "Just follow the sad classical music and I'm sure you'll find them. Megan should be about ready to strangle him again for trying to 'broaden her horizons' musically," she laughed, turning the corner toward the office Phillip was using.

Gypsy followed the loud mellow music, stopping outside the open doors she decided to peek in first, making sure she wouldn't be in the line of fire if Megan was throwing things. Seeing Christian and Megan on the couch she opened her mouth to ask if it was safe to enter, but hesitated, stepping back quickly.

Christian ran his hand down Megan's side, glancing toward the door, knowing Gypsy was right outside. His eyes closed briefly when Megan's mouth caressed his throat as she fed, sensing his distraction she was drawing him back to her mind and body.

Pulling back slightly, Megan slid her tongue over the small wounds along Christian's neck, sealing them instantly. Sighing she leaned her body against his, feeling the rush of desire that went hand in hand with feeding from her mate.

Turning suddenly toward the door, Megan's eyes locked with Gypsy's. Hearing Christian's chuckle she pushed back from him. "I decided that I might as well make use of the time he and I had, since he was going to make me listen to this boring music anyway," she laughed, motioning for Gypsy to come in.

Gypsy looked at the back of the chair across from the small couch where they sat as she walked around it to take a seat. "I didn't want to disturb you, but Jaz is getting Phillip so we can go back to Caydn's. He and Lucien are meeting right now," she explained looking up quickly, meeting Christian's glance with a blush.

Christian stood up, walking over turning the stereo off. "Why don't Phillip and Jaz ride with you, Megan and I will follow. I have a few things I need to do in town this evening," he said smoothly.

"Not a problem," Gypsy stuttered as she stood quickly, avoiding meeting their questioning looks. "I should've called to see if you had plans, but I was in a hurry to escape even for a few minutes," she laughed nervously stopping at the door. "I'll just get Phillip and Jaz and we'll be gone," she almost whispered.

Christian laughed quietly as they heard Gypsy telling Jaz she'd be in the car when they got ready, the door closing loudly as she went out.

"What was that all about?" Megan said with a glance at Christian. "I've never seen her act like that. Wait!" she said turning to face him.

"That's why I felt you pull back from me?" she asked, shaking her head. "Why in the hell didn't you tell me?" she demanded.

Christian pulled Megan against him, brushing her hair back from her ear before nibbling seductively at the smooth skin directly beneath it. "How was I to know that living with Caydn and obviously more, she'd never seen someone feeding?" she asked innocently.

Megan ground the toe of her boot onto the top of his foot, smiling in satisfaction when he groaned and jumped back. "You ass, you knew the other night was the first time she'd ever been around anything like that," she said accusingly. "I suggest you get your ass ready, let's get over to Caydn's so I can talk to her," she said turning, walking out of the room sharply.

*******************************************

Closing the door to his private study, walking to the bar pouring himself a drink, silently offering one to the large man watching Caydn's every move.

"Was there a reason for not telling me you'd been sent here as a guardian for Gypsy?" Caydn asked, turning to meet the silver eyes of his long time friend. "You knew I'd hear the call you sent out last night. The warning to any and all, that you'd taken your place, and were prepared for anything that comes," he said quietly, his voice deadly calm. Sitting behind his desk, he motioned toward a chair if Lucien should decide to take it.

"Caydn we've known one another a long time. We've spent many years with one another. Did you think I wouldn't know your first reaction would be anger?" Lucien asked taking the offered seat. "I knew you'd feel as if someone, Victor mainly. Didn't think you capable of protecting her, but that isn't the case," he said firmly.

Getting up he began pacing the room, "I've been in the area for a few days, feeling things out. Getting a lay of the land, also testing to see what does reside here, and what's foreign to the area," he explained. "I didn't want to walk in and simply announce why I'd been sent, and make you or anyone else feel you were thought beneath the skills needed to face and defeat this," he tossed back the drink he held.

Caydn nodded, understanding what he was saying, appreciating the candor in which Lucien offered the truth to him. "What I don't understand is why all of the secrecy? Is there more of a threat then we've seen toward her? Is she in grave danger and we only think this is a game? Please explain it to me."

Lucien sat down brushing his hair back from his face, since he'd not bound it back as was the practice of most, the lose flowing locks added to the menacing appearance, it was helpful in deterring the minions used as pawns by men who thought themselves above the rule and judgment of others.

"It seems Barton found out Victor's taken the offered gift, that he'll now live on. From that day many have felt Barton's not above using the skills he learned from Damone to gain that gift for him self. His plan has been, or so the elders think, to use Gypsy. He thinks since she's had so many unexplained talents, that she'd been born as one of us." He explained meeting Caydn's eyes. "We know this is false, but the man's demented. There doesn't seem to be anything that will convince him other wise."

Caydn looked into his glass thinking for a minute before looking back to Lucien. "My bond with you has grown stronger," he said quietly, knowing the man would understand his meaning.

Nodding Lucien laughed, "Did you think I wouldn't hear her cries and not know? They were those of passion on a level only experienced with the sharing of blood," he chuckled. "I wasn't out there as a spy, but the situation just lended itself to more information being sent to me then either of us planned," he smiled at his friend who was rubbing his hand over his face shaking his head.

"She's not taken from me, only I from her," Caydn said his tone grime. "It worries me how much more she'd know, and feel if we were to ever make the exchange mutual."

"Would you deny her if she wanted more though?" Lucien asked. Already knowing Caydn was beyond being able to deny the long legged woman, nick named after the wild Romanians that roamed their country, anything. "She's strong willed, and equally strong minded. If she demands and you refuse, you know that doesn't bode well for peace in your life," he laughed at the pained expression on Caydn's face.

"I've never been one to demand, I don't see myself starting now," Gypsy said stepping into the room, shocking both men. Neither had sensed her being there.

"I seem to be a fast learner when I want to move undetected in a house full of security detection devices," she laughed walking over to stand at the edge of Caydn's desk. "When you told me last night about you and my father I decided to look inside and do some digging I guess you could call it. I found there's a slight path directly to you," she grinned at Lucien while Caydn growled slightly.

Caydn noticed the look of concentration on her face, wondering also at the fact that her blocks were up more solidly than he'd experienced so far. "Is something wrong Gypsy?" He asked watching her closely, "Any problems on your trip next door to pick up the traveling circus participants?"

She shook her head, not meeting his eyes, "Phillip and Jaz are in the kitchen visiting. Christian and Megan will be along in a bit. Christian said he had some business in town this evening," she explained. "Sam and Micah were pulling in as I walked down the hall."

Lucien sat forward in the chair looking at Gypsy then Caydn, "I told you neither of us knew exactly how intelligent this woman was. But does she normally tip toe around without you even being aware she's there?" he laughed at Caydn's pained expression. Seeing his subtle nod, he knew he'd successfully changed the subject.

"Normally it's done with the subtlety of a bull in a china shop," Caydn laughed when she huffed turning her back toward him.

"It's been years since I've been around people who heard what was rattling around in my mind." She said looking at Lucien, "it took me a while to remember everything Grandpa Victor had taught me so I didn't have people ducking and grabbing their heads to block me out." She cut her eyes over her shoulder at Caydn while she intentionally slammed her blocks up against him to keep him out.

"That doesn't work as well anymore," he grinned, making her realize he hadn't said a word out loud. Having pushed slightly he'd slipped in hearing soft whispers she'd been trying to keep back. The expression on her face kept him from searching out what was bothering her, preferring her to tell him on her own.

Lucien leaned his head back laughing, seeing the shocked expression on her face and knowing what had taken place.

"Before the two of you get into that discussion, tell me about the man you saw in the door of the guest house today Gypsy." He asked, seeing Caydn stiffen visibly, chuckling when Gypsy's mouth fell open. "I placed a few, lets just call them veils of protection and sentinels, around the places I knew you'd be today to help give me an idea of who or when things might be happening," he met Caydn's eyes.

"Did you weave the names of those here into those? Or will we all have to wonder where the booby traps are?" Caydn laughed when Lucien rolled his eyes.

"Would one of you explain what the hell you're talking about?" She snapped looking from one to the other, "I'd like to know what's going on especially since it's because of me its happening."

"Why don't we take this discussion in and share it with the others, so I only have to go through it once?" Lucien said standing up walking to the door, "I'll meet the two of you in the kitchen since I can smell that wonderful coffee Sophie has made." He grinned, walking out closing the door behind him.

"Gypsy, don't apologize to me again for 'disrupting my life' as you're so fond of saying," he chuckled. Getting up moving around the desk to stand in front of her, he looked down meeting her eyes, "if you haven't noticed, I'm enjoying this particular 'disruption' quite well." He said dropping his lips to hers, kissing her until he could feel her heart racing, her breathe coming in short pants.

"Let's go in the kitchen and let Lucien fill us all in now that his position of guardian has been established and known to all here," he said taking her hand leading her into the kitchen.

********************************

Everyone was sitting in the kitchen as Lucien explained of the protection spells he'd placed around different areas of the estate. Not only there but also at Christian's mansion, to prevent anyone from trying to use Megan against Gypsy.

Megan kept glancing at Gypsy, glaring at Christian when ever Gypsy refused to meet her eyes.

Vince stood up, clearing his throat as he walked carefully to the sink. "I've requested Micah take Samantha, and return to England immediately," he said filling his glass before turning the meet scowl on Micah's face.

"I told you, I was just as capable of protecting Samantha and the baby here as I was at home," Micah snapped, staring at Vince who didn't waver under the stare.

Everyone's eyes snapped to Samantha while she shook her head. "Well so much for being able to make the announcement as a happy occurrence, but one where my husband and mate is foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog," she reached over pinching Micah making his yell.

"Vince I agree, not as much for my own protection. The last thing anyone needs to be doing is adding me to the list of things to worry about," she said, taking Vince's hand when he came back to the table. "I know Micah would like to stay and help his brother and everyone protect Gypsy. I myself would love to be here, but I think we'd be an added burden. So with or without Micah I intend to leave tonight after I've had a chance to say my good byes," she said turning her eyes to Micah daring him to disagree.

Gypsy smiled grabbing Samantha's hand, pulling her toward her room for a quick measuring session. Jaz and Megan followed her so they could talk before Samantha and Micah would be leaving.
Megan sat at the desk taking down the numbers as Gypsy welded her measuring tape with ease. "Would it be possible to make the gown allowing for alight alterations in case Sam needs them?" Megan asked with a sheepish grin when Sam frowned at her.

Jaz laughed, "I can assure you Sam, you're going to need them before you know it. So I suggest you take the suggestion with a smile and just nod." She prodded her gorgeous blonde friend. "Gypsy you've been quieter than usual tonight, and the normal mind chatter is blocked. Is something wrong and you haven't told us?" Jaz asked looking concerned.

Kneeling beside Sam she kept her head down, trying to concentrate on the numbers scattered along the tape measure. "I'm just busy is all Jaz," she forced a smile.

Sam looked at Megan who frowned, then toward Jaz who also was looking confused. "Okay Gypsy something's wrong because you're broadcasting an energy that's as appealing as a wet woolen blanket in the summer," she said stepping back to sit on the arm of Jaz's chair.

Gypsy looked down at the measuring tape in her hands, wishing she could be anywhere but there at the moment. "There's nothing wrong," she said with a sigh looking to Jaz and Sam. "It just seems as soon as I make a friend they leave," she made a face, relaxing when they all laughed.

"Gypsy I know what you saw tonight. Do you want to talk about it?" Megan asked, propping her elbow on the table, waiting for Gypsy to look at her.

Seeing the confused looks on Jaz and Sam's faces Megan started to explain. "When Gypsy came to pick us all up earlier, and she found," she said, stopping when Gypsy snapped her head up to glare at her, her face flushed.

"I can tell it since I'm the ignorant one, maybe it won't make me sound as bad," Gypsy said with a deep sigh.

"I walked to the music room, Jaz told me Mega and Christian were there," she said, her voice soft. "I hadn't meant to disturb anything, but it was obvious I did. That's it, all of it. No biggie, I'll just make sure I make lot's of noise next time I look for someone," she forced a laugh.

Sam was looking confused, glancing from Megan to Jazleen. Seeing the knowing look on Jaz's face she knew she was the only one not fully aware of what Gypsy was talking about.

Jaz slid out of the chair, sitting on the floor beside Gypsy. "I think we all forget our life style isn't something you've known very long, let alone had a chance to get use to," she said quietly, taking Gypsy's hand.

"Next time you decide to remove Christian's clothes Megan, you might want to do it in your room and not the rest of the house," Sam chuckled, stopping when Gypsy made a choking sound, her cheeks flushing bright red.

Megan couldn't help but laugh seeing Gypsy's discomfort at the situation increase. "I was feeding Sam. I assure you his clothes were safe at the time, just not himself."

"I'm sorry Gypsy," Sam said sincerely, slipping down to sit beside she and Jaz on the floor, Megan joining the circle of women. "I remember not long after Jaz went through the change she asked me if it was normal to feel an overwhelming hunger. I can only imagine that's what was happening with Megan," she said smiling when she saw Megan's nod.

"The other night was the first time you've personally witnessed the exchange isn't it?" Jaz asked, wondering at the silent gasp that escaped Gypsy before she dropped her head and nodded.

Gypsy wished she could crawl under the carpet they were sitting on to avoid this conversation all together. How in the hell did Jaz know that she'd almost begged Caydn to bite her while they were having sex, she wondered.

"When Micah told me that you'd gone with Caydn, Christian and Megan I think we all assumed that you'd seen this before," Sam said looking at the other women for their agreement. "Having been born to this life I can only imagine that the draw especially to a sexual creature such as Christian would have Megan stuck to him like a fly to paper," she laughed seeing Megan rolling her eyes, glancing toward the door.

"I can assure you Sam I'd like nothing better, but it seems the woman has a strong will and only seeks me out willingly when the hunger reaches epidemic proportions," Christian said from the doorway, were her was casually leaning taking in the conversation.

Pushing away from the door he walked over taking the chair Jaz had vacated. "Gypsy did you not find it unusual the other night that Megan stayed in the car with you and wasn't out with Caydn and I?" he asked winking at her when she met his eyes.

She thought about it for a minute, remembering Megan was who had set their direction, but she had remained with her. "I don't guess I thought about it then but now it would be my question," she told him, taking a deep breath calming her self, glad the conversation was moving away from she and Caydn.

"Partners, couples, mates, what ever phrase you'd use to describe us," he said taking Megan's hand pulling her gently toward him. "We males typically feed and our mates in turn feed from us," he explained. "I guess you could call it a jealousy issue," he laughed. "I can honestly say if I were to see Megan feed from another male unless a dire emergency I wouldn't be responsible for my actions."

Jaz nodded chuckling, "Phillip is also someone who becomes consumed with jealousy," she added, squeezing Gypsy's hand gently. "I've done it a few times just to push his buttons, but it didn't take me long to realize I was cutting my own nose off to spite my face," she rolled her eyes as the group around her laughed loudly.

"It's a very erotic and personal thing Gypsy when a mate feeds from the other," Sam said with a wink. "I've seen women get so involved they forget the world around them until someone clears their throat letting them know they're disrobing in public," she laughed looking directly at Jaz.

Gypsy looked at each face, breathing a silent sigh of relief when she saw they weren't making fun of her and didn't think she was ignorant for not knowing all this. "I guess next time I walk in on something out of the ordinary I'll just suck it up and ask questions, pardon the pun," she laughed. "Now Christian I suggest you head back down stairs and let us finish Sam's measurements before she leaves or you can deal with Micah's jealousy when he finds out you were her when his wife stripped down to her panties and bra," she said with a chuckle seeing the shocked expression flash on his face before being replaced with a wolfish grin.

*************************************************

Caydn draped his arm around his brothers shoulders, "I appreciate you wanting to stay but you now have something other than yourself and Sam to focus on," he laughed, "I suggest you spend as much time with her as you can now because once the baby arrives you're going to have to learn to share, something you've never been very good at," he grunted with Micah's fist connected with his stomach.

Christian walked back in the room, shaking his head. "I think the women will be down as soon as they remove and the replace Sam's clothing," he grinned at Micah flashing him shining fangs, taunting the younger man.

"Sam has never been one to fall victim to your charms Christian," Micah chuckled. "One of the few things I've never had to worry about since being mated with her," he said raising his glass in a silent toast to the European playboy who now found his wings clipped since finding Megan.

The next few hours were filled with casual conversation and well wishes among the group. Phillip shocked everyone when he informed Jazleen he'd prefer her to leave with Micah and Samantha, she could fly home the following night to be with Angelique. He'd be staying possibly another week but then he'd also be flying home to check on some business matters and see his daughter, he informed them.

"I don't intend to stay gone, but before I leave I'm sure we'll have an idea exactly what it is we're up against so I can make the call then," he said firmly leaving no room for argument from his lovely wife.

Sophie and Vince retired after Micah, Samantha and Jazleen left for the airport, the private jet awaited them. Sophie was exhausted with all the rapid turn of events and Vince was still on the mend even though he was improving dramatically every day.

Gypsy walked into the study with two mugs of hot chocolate for her and Megan. Handing her best friend hers she sat down on the floor in front of the fire listening while the men talked about Lucien's thoughts on everything.

"Projection was one of Damone's greatest feats. I'm thinking that's how Barton was able to appear in the shop that day, and from Gypsy's description of the man today. I'd almost bet Damone himself made an appearance to test things since I've come into the picture," he explained. "He's always claimed himself to be the master at undoing spells and causing protective spells to disintegrate at his command," he chuckled.

"Let me see if I've got all of this," Gypsy said quietly, "I was only seeing him like a reflection in a mirror? He wasn't really there?" she said looking at Lucien.

He nodded, "He can project his image making it look like he's physically there. But when Barton was in the shop he was able to slap you without being there. This means they've learned to not only project their image, but also their power which can be dangerous," he said solemnly. "I've only experienced that skill a few times but I'm sure it wouldn't take much to figure out."

Gypsy shook her head before dropping it to her hands. "This is all too much to take in, it makes my head hurt," she said frowning. "If it would be okay with everyone I think I'm going to go up and work on some sewing. Maybe for a little while it won't seem like I'm living in a strange dream I can't wake up from," she said standing up glancing at Caydn.

Megan stood up looking back at Christian, "I'm going to go with her and see if I can use my brains for something useful," she chuckled when Christian rolled his eyes before following Gypsy out of the room and upstairs.

"What did the material look like?" Megan asked sitting down on the floor leaning back against the book cases while Gypsy sat in front of the sewing machine.

"Oh Meg I wish we'd thought about going out there earlier before everything got so spooky sounding," she frowned, "It's fantastic," she laughed. "All the different colors and designs, I was a little worried that all of it was gonna be patterned but there's a whole selection of solids in different colors and hues," she laughed when Megan rubbed her hands together.

"I can't wait to see it," Megan laughed, "I've been picturing some of the designs you've drawn and I want to see what you think of some of my ideas for fabrics," she smiled at Gypsy. "I doubt I'll ever get the idea of designing but putting something together and marketing it now that's my focus."

"I'm so glad that you like that stuff cause if I even think about it all I want to do is run away," Gypsy said sliding out of her chair onto the floor beside Megan.

"Are you almost done with the coat?" Megan said reaching for the multi- colored textured piece Gypsy had pulled into her lap.

"I was just going to leave it single layer and add a lining but with as cold as it's gotten I added a thin layer of micro insulation. Now I just have to finish the final stitching the lining then either make a belt or add buttons not sure yet," she said turning the coat inside out showing Megan what she was talking about.

Megan rubbed her hand over a large section of velvet puzzled into the piece. "Gypsy that's amazing," Megan exclaimed when Gypsy slipped the coat on, turning pirouettes showing off her finished design.

"You don't think it's to much being ankle length?" she said leaning down to look at the front of the coat, "I started to make it just knee length and when I was piecing the fabric it got longer and longer," she laughed, "I also thought this way it would work for either a dress or slacks so multipurpose."

"That will be perfect for some of the holiday parties Christian mentioned we'll all be attending with Caydn," Megan giggled, gathering all the pieces she wanted to carry home with her later.

"What do you mean parties?" Gypsy said brushing her hand over the coat, hanging it on a hanger putting it in the closet.

Megan was sitting on the floor looking worried, "Caydn hasn't mentioned it to you?" she asked frowning. "I'm sure he hasn't had much of a chance with everything that's been going on," she said grabbing Gypsy's hand pulling her down on the floor beside her.

"Well Meg if he doesn't, don't mention it okay?" she asked softly, "I don't want him to feel as though he's put on the spot having to take me if that's not his intention," she explained while Megan shook her head grinning.

"You've got to be kidding me that you'd think he'd actually not take you Gypsy," she said firmly. "The man's crazy about you even if you can't see it, the rest of us can," she winked at her. Standing up, she pulled Gypsy up behind her, "Christian's ready to go home," she said with a seductive smile, grabbing the bags she looked over her shoulder at Gypsy.

"You're coming down aren't you? Yes you are," she laughed making Gypsy laugh while she followed Megan down to the study.

*************************************

The week seemed to pass in a whirl wind. Things had calmed since Lucien had been in town, standing guard over everything and everyone as life began to fall into a pattern.

Gypsy and Sophie supervised the remodeling of the guest house into an exclusive feeling boutique. Vince was able to get back to some of his own work around the estate with the help of four additional staff that had been hand picked by Victor.

Standing at the door of her new shop Gypsy waved as Rebecca and Karen pulled out, both pleased and well satisfied with their wardrobe.

"All this time you were afraid moving here was going to slow things down," Sophie laughed walking to stand beside her niece. "I think by moving here people think you're a undiscovered talent only they know about," she chuckled handing Gypsy a handful of messages she'd taken while Gypsy had been busy.

Gypsy shook her head glancing at the messages, "I don't know what I would've done if you hadn't handled the beading of that gown," she sighed flopping down in an arm chair. "I didn't see that one coming," she chuckled.

"I bet things are going to become much more extravagant in the next week with Thanksgiving and then Christmas coming up," Sophie said patting Gypsy's shoulder, walking over to look at the beautiful white gown draped over dress form she'd been making for Jazleen.

"I hope your taking time to create some things for yourself," she said turning to flash Gypsy a firm look. "I've seen you rush to finish something for yourself at the last minute when you put it off. So make plans ahead of time because from what I've over heard from Caydn and Christian the introduction of Christian and Megan into the business world is going to be a large event."

Gypsy groaned closing her eyes slumping further in the chair, "please don't remind me," she said opening one eye to see Sophie shaking her head at her. "I'd like nothing more than to just stay here in my little piece of the world, and cut and sew letting everyone else go out and do what they think is exciting," she frowned. "But yes I have a few pieces with Megan now she should be bringing me tonight," she laughed. "She just doesn't know they're for me."

She sat up glancing out the window smiling when she saw Vince riding across the grounds on the golf cart Caydn had bought so he wouldn't tax himself. "Why can't thing stay this quiet and peaceful Sophie?" she asked quietly. "Every since Lucien's been here things have gone so well. It makes me feel like what ever happens next is going to be twice as chaotic," she frowned.

"I hate to say it but you're probably right my dear," Sophie said sitting across from her. "I've never known anyone as twisted as Damone, to sit back and take defeat so easily without making at least one more attempt and then it's a spectacular one at that," she admitted with a sigh. "Things have been calm here for many years. I can almost see Vince smiling with the anticipation, which can be nerve wracking," she laughed when Gypsy giggled.

"There've been a few times he's mentioned us possibly taking over the care of one of Caydn's European estates. But this has been our home since Jazleen was a baby. He knows that I'd miss it if we left, so we've stayed," she smiled gently.

"If I'd known excitement was what he needed I could've moved in years ago," Gypsy laughed glancing at her watch. "I'm going to have a busy afternoon, care to give me a hand while I'm taking some measurements and then doing the final fittings for three others?" she grinned walking to the door to the kitchen, "I'm putting on more coffee because I'm going to need it."

Later Sophie waved to Vince while he drove off in his cart, turning she saw Gypsy leaning against the door frame. "You need to get some sleep young lady," Sophie said sternly, "You're trying to keep both day and night hours and it's catching up with you. Vince just came by and said since we'd been busy he was sending one of the young men to bring Chinese for dinner," she said walking over to take Gypsy's hand. "Let's go to the house. You can lie down until dinner gets here and then if you're still as pale, I'm going to demand Caydn send you to bed for the night," she said leaving no room for objections. The two women walked to the main house after locking the door to the guest house.

Lucien followed Christian and Megan into the kitchen closing the door behind him. Turning quickly he looked at Sophie, "Where is she?" he asked sharply, "Is Caydn with her?"

"She's upstairs in her room," Sophie said her expression concerned, "Caydn's been there since he woke. He's trying to reason with her but I seriously doubt he's doing any better now than he was thirty minutes ago," she frowned.

Lucien nodded walking toward the front of the house, the sound of his foot steps moving quickly up the stairs to Gypsy's room.

"Megan's been trying to tell her that she can't keep this pace up. She needed to try dividing her time and sleeping in between," Christian said squeezing Megan's shoulder. "I'm going to see if I can help in some way," he said quietly, walking out of the room.

Christian walked into the dimly lit bedroom not knowing if he wanted to laugh or roar after he'd stood there a few seconds. Gypsy was trying to get out of bed while Caydn kept pushing her back into bed. Lucien was standing on the other side of the bed looking as if he was about to release the wrath of hell on who ever was in the room.

"I said I want some ice cream," Gypsy said her voice weak and shaky. "I've been in the house like a good girl for weeks, only going out with an escort. Now I just want Caydn to take me for ice cream," she said glaring at both of the men before looking up seeing Christian in the door way.

"Christian will you and Megan take me for ice cream please?" she asked with a sigh. "Butter pecan is all I want," she said closing her eyes seeing him look at Caydn.

Caydn looked down at her, brushing his hand over her hair gently, "Gypsy you haven't," he started to say but stopped when she snapped her head up to glare at him.

"Don't even say it," she snarled, "I know 'you haven't had dinner yet', do I need to remind everyone I'm not twelve anymore? Finishing everything on my plate isn't required if I want some damn ice cream," she almost yelled, ending in a cough, trying to catch her breath.

Stepping toward the bed Christian glared at them. "Both of you get the hell out of here," he almost roared. "Caydn for the love of god go to the ice cream shop and get her a gallon of butter pecan is that's what she wants," he ordered, pointing toward the door. "And you get your damn over grown ass out of here so she'll calm down and I can see exactly what's wrong with her," he said spinning around to confront Lucien.
He took her hand, helping her crawl back in bed, pulling the covers up around her while she shivered. Glancing over his shoulder he sighed silently as the door closed quietly.

"Thank you Christian," she said weakly, "All I wanted was ice cream," her voice faded.

Feeling her hands and head he felt the fever that raged at the edge of erupting, infection was running through her body weakening her system. Walking across the room to lock the door, he spoke silently to Megan letting her know to keep everyone occupied while he did his best to make Gypsy better. Turning back to the bed he sat down, pulling her into his lap, her back against his chest supporting her.

"Gypsy I need to you to stay calm, just relax and I'll help you feel better," he said his voice just above the methodic honeyed tones he knew didn't work but annoyed her. Sliding his hand along her side he knew immediately what the problem was.

Closing his eyes his lips moving in a silent chant, his hand moved to rest flat on her chest, the other moved to her forehead stroking softly.

Her mind was a haze, but she could hear Christians voice the tone soothing even though the words were foreign, a language she'd never heard or if she had she didn't recognize. The coolness of his hands quickly became warmer as the shivering increased until she felt her teeth had to be chattering she was so cold. The pounding in her temples eased as did the pressure she'd felt in her chest when she'd woke up earlier.

Keeping her eyes closed she sighed feeling as if something was moving over all the aches and pains that she'd been feeling, but hadn't mentioned to anyone even Caydn. Taking a deep breath she felt herself slipping, feeling Christian holding her she knew she was safe so she didn't struggle against sleep as it washed over her.

Christian was sitting in the study when Caydn stormed in, followed closely by Lucien.

"We almost went to jail when this idiot screamed at the young man in the ice cream shop," Caydn snarled turning to glare at Lucien who'd thrown himself down in a chair. "How is she?" he asked quickly. Having seen Vince in the kitchen who'd told him Megan and Sophie were upstairs with her while she rested, Christian was waiting in the study.

"How often have the two of you exchanged blood?" Christian asked taking a drink of his brandy almost laughing when Caydn froze in mid stride on his way to the bar, before turning around to meet his stare slowly.

"We've never 'exchanged' blood," Caydn said slowly, "What would that have to do with anything?" he asked seeing Lucien sit forward out of the corner of his eye.

"Well this one sided 'taking' compounded with the fact that she's been less than healthy long before she came to live here, has left her seriously anemic," he said gently, knowing Caydn's first reaction would be rage with himself. "That's not and wasn't the most serious issue though," he said quickly. "She'd developed bacterial double pneumonia, the infection was spreading quickly through out her body," he said tossing his drink back.

Caydn sat down heavily in the chair beside him, dropping his head to his hands. Lucien stood and began pacing.

"I take it by your saying 'had', you took care of the infection and repaired everything?" Lucien asked his voice carrying an edge to it. "But did you do anything about the anemia?"

Christian sat forward in his chair, "Of course I took care of the infection and I repaired all of the recent damage. But I can tell you this isn't the first or the second time she's had this. There are numerous scars that have been left behind by raging lung infections throughout her life," he said shaking his head. "Her kidneys were weak from dehydration but Sophie and Megan were able to get her to drink some juice and something Sophie had that contained electrolytes, so that should be balancing out as we speak," he explained. "I didn't do anything about the anemia. I didn't know if there was a reason for there have never been an exchange between the two. It's not life threatening, nor something she'll not build back up in about a month maybe a little longer if she begins taking care of herself."

Lucien turned to stare at Caydn who was rubbing his hands over his face, "Is there a reason why you haven't exchanged blood with her? Or did it just not dawn on you taking from someone that's as fragile as she is wouldn't lean to complications?" he said, his voice filled with anger while he stared at his life long friend.

Caydn jumped out of his chair, his fists clenched at his sides meeting Lucien's stare full on, his own eyes blazing, the anger directed at him self.

"Yes Lucien, this is my fault," he said his voice low and dangerous. "We've never made an exchange because for as well as she tries to block me and keep me out, I can hear and almost taste her doubt and fears," he explained. "She offers herself to me selflessly everyday, but I've only taken from her twice in over two weeks and each time never enough to weaken or endanger her," he snapped before turning to look at Christian.

"Would it help her heal if she did take from me?" he asked quietly already knowing the answer.

Christian nodded, but held his hand up, "Yes it would, but only if you'd taken the time to feed yourself while you were out," he reprimanded him. "I understand you were concerned about her, but you've got to start taking the time to fill your own needs or you're going to find yourself weak at a time when she needs you to be strong," he said firmly.

"Either I can go out and come to you when I get back or you can go out with me," he said turning toward the doorway, "the choice is yours."

Lucien stepped forward, "I'm offering if you're accepting," he said meeting Caydn's eyes. "Christian needs to be here with her right now until she wakes up, and he knows that he's gotten all the infection. I know you don't wish to leave her either. You can take from me and I can then go out and feed again and make sure things will remain calm for tonight at least," he said stepping forward at Caydn's nod of acceptance. Running his nail over his wrist swiftly, he offered the quickly welling wetness to Caydn.

Christian had gone upstairs while Caydn fed from Lucien. Sealing the wound when he finished, nodding his thanks feeling the powerful blood of his friend rushing through his body.

Lucien walked to the bar pouring himself a double shot of scotch, lifting the glass to Caydn in a toast he laughed. "I can only thank the powers above I've never found myself in your situation. So lost in the mind and body of a mortal woman I forget who and what I am," he smiled before tossing back the drink.

Sitting down shaking his head Caydn looked up at the large man, "Until just now I hadn't a clue that was what was happening to me," he said with a chuckle. "But it is, and Lucien I do wish the same on you so one day I can glare and rage at you for making the same stupid mistakes I've been making all along," he grinned wickedly at his friend.

"What kind of thanks is that for my allowing you to feed when I should've left you to sweat and pant it out for your own stupidity," he laughed draping his arm over Caydn's shoulders when he stood.

"I'm going out for a bit but if you need me you now can alert me immediately," he said before walking off toward the kitchen, the sound of the door closing only minutes later.

Stepping to the double doors leading into her bedroom Caydn was relieved to see even though she was still pale, the dark circles beneath her eyes had already begun to fade and the rhythm of her breathing was much less strained as she appeared to be sleeping soundly.

Glancing at Megan who sat on the bed beside Gypsy he was shocked to see the fierce stare she gave him, almost pinning him to the wall with its violence. He dropped his eyes from the raw emotion he saw reflected there while Christian stepped beside the bed placing his hand on her shoulder to calm her.

"It's okay Meg, it isn't like he wanted this to happen anymore than I did," Gypsy whispered reaching for Megan's hand lying beside her on the bed.

"I didn't mean to wake you," Megan said softly, brushing her hair back.

Opening her eyes Gypsy smiled weakly, "I know you didn't mean to but you forget how everyone's thoughts rattle around in my head and those you were having were rather a shout," she chuckled when Megan gasped embarrassed at having forgotten.

Turning her head her eyes met Caydn's. Taking a deep breath she lifted her hand from the comforter waiting for him to move the few steps to the side of the bed.

"I already know what's wrong even if Christian wasn't going to tell me. He also forgot I hear things I'm some times not supposed to," she said gently when he sat on the side of the bed next to her. "I mean it though, none of this was your fault it just happened is all," she smiled up at him weakly.

"What I want to know is did you bring me my ice cream?" she asked making everyone in the room laugh. "I still don't see what's so funny about someone wanting ice cream when they don't feel good," she said closing her eyes with a huff.

Sophie stood up and patted her hand, "Since Caydn's back I'm sure there's ice cream down stairs I'll get you some dear," she said squeezing Caydn's shoulder before walking out of the room.

Turning her head to look at Christian she smiled. "I guess I owe you more than an apology for thinking you were a player as well as a playboy when you first got here," she grinned when he pretended to be shocked. "Now it seems I owe you my life," she said softly, "thank you."

Christian shook his head, "First of all there's no need for an apology since I knew within seconds what your opinion was, and I thought it was adorable because you'd no idea you'd broadcast it to everyone with any hearing talents in a hundred mile radius that night," he laughed deeply. "Secondly it was my pleasure to save your life as you call it. Without you around I wouldn't have the pleasure of watching my friend here make such a moronic fool out of himself," he chuckled looking at Cadyn, who lifted her hand to his mouth to hide his smile.

"How long before I can be up and around?" she asked trying to sit up in bed.

"Wait a minute young lady," Christian said firmly. "This has taken quite a bit out of you. It's possible it'll be a month or longer before your back to full strength," he nodded his head when she began shaking hers.

"I don't have time to be in bed," she said desperately looking at Megan and Caydn. "I just took measurements for five dresses today, and then did the final fitting on three more, those have to be finished by next week," she said closing her eyes her voice shaking.

She took a deep breath before opening her eyes, "You mean that's all it would take and I'd be back to my old self?" she asked, turning her head toward the door meeting Lucien's eyes when he'd walked in silently blocking his presence from everyone but her.

Caydn turned around quickly, "you never seem to know when to keep your mouth shut do you?" he asked glaring at him.

Lucien shrugged pushing away from the door frame, walking to stand at the end of the bed. "Well all of you were telling her everything, except for 'everything' so I thought someone needed to," he said casually, winking at her when she chuckled.

"Caydn you knew this and weren't going to tell me?" she looked at him, "Why?"

He took a deep breath blowing it out quickly, "Well I've always known you had doubts about it, fears even if you wouldn't admit that was what they were," he said quickly. "I wasn't about to push anything on you that you weren't ready for or wanted," he said simply.

She looked from him to Christian and then at Lucien who laughed.

"No you don't have to be awake and ware of it if that's how you'd prefer it be done," he said flashing her a bright smile despite Cadyn's black and evil glare.

"What can I say she asked me because she knew I'd tell her the truth," he said throwing his hands in the air.

"It takes more than once for a conversion right?" she asked looking at Caydn.

He shook his head, "It takes three times at the very least for that, this would just be giving you back stronger healthy blood, think of it as a transfusion," he smiled at her.

Looking at Christian, she held out her hand. "Will you make me go to sleep again?" she asked before looking at Caydn, "then will you?" her voice faded at his nod.
