Hall of Doors

Author's note: It's only fair I warn you in saying that you won't be seeing instantaneous sexual action the moment Daniel so much as looks at a girl, this story is meant for those interested in a plot and some character developement and entertaining story. I want the reader to build a romantic bond with the people he meets, so naturally that means in most cases and on most paths it's going to take a little longer than usual for things to get heated. That being said don't expect a novel every time you pick something, as I'm 1. not the best writer and 2. an extremely lazy writer.

The relationships will also be built on the characters treating one another as equals rather than slaves and/or masters, as that's what I enjoy reading and writing personally. If this isn't to your liking and you prefer debasement, dependence and the like then this story is likely not for you! That being said, there will be scenes of intense love making, but as the name implies it's going to involve love in my stories.

If you're still interested in reading with these things in mind, I hope you enjoy!

Ding!

You hear the sound of a tiny bell ring as you wake up, like an elevator arriving at the desired floor. A voice greets you from the bright light surrounding you with an overenthusiastic British accent. "Welcome Daniel! To the Hall of Doors, I do hope you'll enjoy your stay." The accented voice reverberates around the ethereal walls and you wonder what land of dreams you've stumbled into this time. "Yes, hello, what is this place?" Your voice echoes just the same as his, and you rub your eyes to get a better look around you.

The voice answers as you look around, "While this could be percieved as some kind of a dream, the Hall's sole purpose is to teach people about the nature of reality using subliminal messages through intelligent storytelling. The choices in this reality are yours, though I wouldn't rely on dream-logic to see you through tough situations. It's up to you, using critical thinking, to make the right decisions when difficult times emerge."

You nod your head, a mixture of doubt and curiosity muddling your already-amnesic mind. As he spoke you looked at the walls around you, a bright white light pouring off them. Doors spaced randomly along them, colored and styled in completely different ways. One moment you might see an old western door with grey lines running up and down the sides, while the next you might see a circular one that would fit a hobbit. Further down the hall it looks like there's intersecting halls which lead elsewhere but you can't make out where from your current position. As questions began to fill your mind, you decided on one and asked, "Who are you?"

"Thompson, at your service!" he replies, and with that a figure much resembling the monopoly man (plus a monocle, screw the mandela effect) materializes in front of you, tipping his top hat in salutations.

Before you can muster a response, you hear the echoes of footsteps coming from down one of those intersecting halls.

"Damnit, someone's gotten through!" Thompson whispers with a glare down the hallway.

You blink a few times and whisper "What do you mean someone's gotten through?"

"These doors, they lead to other dimensions! Normally I-..er, the portals, are set in rather-" he looks down in thought for a moment and runs his hands over the top of his cane before continuing "-hard to reach places so the average animal doesn't wonder through and make a mess of things in here."

"I don't understand..other dimensions?"

He's about to respond when you both hear a feminine voice, presumably the source of the footsteps. She calls out in surprise, "Who's there?"

Thompson turns to you, grabs your shoulders and says in an urgent whisper "I'm afraid questions will have to wait until later, come on! We've got to hurry!" and runs towards a green door with a sign next to it reading "Harxodd" which opens up automatically as he approaches. The other side revealed lush green hills with sparkling rivers, mountains in the distance and a brilliant blue sky without a cloud in sight. You thought you could hear the chirping of birds and the rushing of water in those rivers but you couldn't be sure.

"But I-"

"Get in quick! I'll explain everything once we're safe, but right now there's no time to explain!" he waves you to follow him, interrupting your half-spoken objection.

You pause, unsure why you're fleeing from whoever's calling out from around the corner—and why does her voice sound so familiar?

"What if I don't?"

Thompson gulps "God help us if she finds us here..."

"Why-"

"Christ boy make up your mind! We can't wait any longer!" he gives you a hard stare, indicating he'll leave you behind if you refuse to follow him.

You hear the footsteps drawing closer, it's now or never!
