Happy New Year

A chill in the air, dazzling sunlight, and a young woman's voice is what woke me up that morning. The itching, sticking twigs and leaves, and the kind hand of the stranger are what forced me to stand up and brush the dirt off myself.

"Have a good night?" the woman asked with a smile. The harsh light of the sun combined with the intense hangover was causing me to squint far too much. From what I could make of her as my eyes began to adjust was a foggy silhouette of a slim-framed lady with a frizzy afro and tight jeans. Her chocolate-coloured skin was hardly on show, as she was wearing a denim jacket that matched her legwear. Her face was soft, and she'd gone light on the makeup.

I shook my head and stretched.
"I think so, must have done I guess" I replied, following it up with a yawn. I looked around to see that I was right outside of the train station. Now I had my bearings, I began to think about the best way to get home and get some real rest.

"I saw you from my window across the street. You want a ride home?" the young lady asked me, that same smile on her face. The brightness of the sun shimmering around her head made her appear angelic almost, very suiting to the offer on the table.

"Thanks" I said sincerely, raising my hand to shield my eyes so I didn't have to squint so hard at her.

"Parked across the street" she said, turning around and gesturing me to follow her to a little thing she very clearly just used to get around in.

I half limped after her, my clothes still kind of twisted around my body uncomfortably and crap sticking out of my hair. As I approached the passenger side door, we caught each other's eye across the roof of the car.
