Heartbreaker Protocol
(Partial list of Code of Conduct and Glossary)

Action - The process where the club does something in order to achieve a desired result. Normally, an Action may involve the use of various types of Resources. Large Actions may be conducted through a series of Mini-Actions, and are also called Operations In Progress.

Active - Elite club members keep a list of any and all Operations in Progress, and any Actions being planned. At times it may be necessary to suspend an activity, or to cancel it, such as in a case where a Vendetta has achieved Satisfaction. When an activity goes from Active to Inactive, it may be necessary to dismantle its components in a covert manner, in order that the intention or purpose will not be disclosed.

Agitator - This label applies to People Assets who are specialists at inciting public outcry or revolt. Agitators are bold enough to step into a critical situation, and to make matters even worse. As they are highly prized, Agitators are among the first persons rewarded by a club after a successful Action. It is because of the nature of these rewards that Agitators are willing to put themselves and their reputations on the line.

Assets - These are defined as follows: People Assets are people that can be hired for specific or random Actions. Cash Assets are the liquid currency a club has on hand. Hard Assets are solid goods that can be transferred from one point to another, sometimes with and sometimes without a middleman. Service Assets are services a person can provide, usually to club members. All Assets can be paid for with Cash Assets or with Outstanding Debt.

Attrition - This is the process of chipping away against the membership of a larger club or other entity, by separating its components and weakening them until they are no longer effective.

Basic Training - This is the process wherein new Initiates are taken under the wing of an Elite club member, and are shown the rules of The Game, and how the club operates behind the scenes. Nearly everything that is taught during Basic Training is considered Top Secret.

Challenge - Frequently, and to bolster its own reputation, a club may issue a Challenge to another club. Actions and Resources are put into play to complete a Challenge, but the results are not publicized to the Random Public. Instead, victories and losses are tabulated internally by each the clubs involved. The Random Public only catches glimpses of what actually took place. Some Challenges can be bizarre, or even formidable, but the club that has issued a Challenge must have done something similar right before the Challenge was issued to their rivals. The idea is that one club can do or achieve something that the other club can't. Proof is usually provided through the use of digital pictures.

Confidential Information - This includes anything the clubs do not want the Random Public to know, at any given time. Confidential Information may range from the trivial and up to Top Secret.

Disinfo - A club may use Disinfo, or disinformation, for the purpose of misleading another club or the Random Public. Disinfo can be used in a number of different ways, but its primary purposes are to conceal something from becoming known, or to cause distraction from a club's real goals.

Elite - This term applies to active, highly ranked members of a club. Due to the sensitive nature of a club's operations, a club may only have a handful of Elite active at any given time. The Elite are the movers and the shakers in the club, and they motion for Actions to take place and use Assets and Resources at will. It is a given that Elite members are aloof and haughty towards the Random Public, towards the Elite of other clubs, and sometimes even to their Wannabes.

Hibernation - Although this is extremely rare, a Queen may, for personal reasons, opt to remove herself from leadership of a club. She is still treated with the utmost respect. Any Orders given by her are carried out with the highest priority, as they normally would be. The biggest change would be that day to day running of the club would be left to other members of the Elite.

Hit - It is rare for a club to use violence against another club, as much of their battles take place in the mental realm. At times, however, it may be necessary to use violence against a Trespasser, or against a person who is having a Vendetta called against them. This Order to commit violence can take many forms, from physical harm to vandalism. One example of a Hit is a Smash And Grab, where property is broken into and valuables are taken. At times, it may be instrumental to provide the victim of a Hit with a hint that it was the club who Ordered it. In this case, Fingerprints are left behind. No Fingerprints would mean that the act of violence would appear to have been caused at random.

Immediate Needs - This term refers to allocation of Resources for an Elite member's personal benefit, or for the benefit of the club. Immediate Needs are neutral wants or desires, as opposed to Actions or Operations, which are used against rival clubs. A Taxi is a good example of how an Immediate Need can be fulfilled.

Initiation - The process where a person goes from being a Wannabe to become a full or Elite member of a club. Initiation usually involves taking part in a major Action or Challenge.

Operation In Progress - A series of related Actions. See Actions.

Opportunity - This is an instance of chance that is seen by and can be taken advantage of by Elite or Wannabes, to both improve their personal standing in the club and / or to build up their own reputations in the eyes of the Random Public. In the club's view, there are no errors or setbacks in the present. Instead they are seen as Opportunities for the future.

Orders - These are instructions given from the Elite to their Wannabes. An official Order is the same as a law. Severe penalties may be imposed if an Order is not completed with as much efficiency and speed as possible. Wannabes or other members of the public cannot make Orders, but they can make Requests, which the Elite may consider, and may or may not act upon.

Outstanding Debt - This occurs when a person owes debt, but does not pay the debt off with Cash, or Liquid Assets. Instead, the debtor may pay off his or her debt with a Service, or through being part of an Action.

Pawn - A Pawn is person who unwittingly steps into a situation where they have no idea of what's going on around them. The clubs may or may not manipulate this person for their ends. A Pawn may also be used to pass along Disinfo.

Player - This is a general term that may apply to any person participating in The Game, or in an Action. Club members and members of the Random Public are always considered Players in The Game, but people can also become swept into a specific timeframe of The Game, such as during an Action, albeit this is usually temporary depending on what is going on. See also: The Game.

Queen Bee - Also known as simply a Queen or a Mother. A Queen Bee is the undisputed leader of a club. A Queen Bee is responsible for maintaining the integrity and notoriety of a club, and always takes the lead in Actions. The Elite of a club flank their Queen Bee so that she cannot be approached by the Random Public. All Resources and Assets are available to the Queen Bee at all times. This allows her to make instant decisions and to put Players into motion on a whim, or during a crisis.

Random Public - This is the average person on the street, and in this case the Random Public consists mainly, but not exclusively, of the alumni of Madison High School. The Random Public is deliberately kept uninformed of club Actions, unless said club wishes their Actions to be known. Sometimes, Disinfo is used on the Random Public to divert their attention in one direction, when a club is actually performing an Action somewhere else.

Relative Cost - This refers to setting a dollar amount on a given Resource. The primary purpose of calculating Relative Cost is to enable goods, services and people to be allocated to any purpose without an exchange of cash. This allows credit to be established among the various parties, where some may have abundance and others a deficit. Most persons acquire a deficit, or debt, and club Elite may request these persons to perform a task or service in order for them to lower their debt.

Resource - A reserve supply, whether of people, goods, currency or services. This general category is further broken down into Assets.

Satisfaction - This is, in effect, a condition that must be achieved in order for a Vendetta to be called off. Satisfaction is achieved when the person who first declared the Vendetta believes she has been vindicated for whatever wrong was done to her. All Elite club members or Wannabes must be informed that Satisfaction has been met, in order for them to cease using Actions and Resources against the original offender.

Supporting Cast - These are persons who are readily available to be called upon to perform an Action or to provide a service to Elite club members. Elite and Wannabes are not considered Supporting Cast, but everyone else affiliated with a club is.

Taxi - This can be any person who agrees to be on call and serve as a driver for a member of the Elite. The Elite, and especially the Queens, routinely use Taxis to get back and forth. The Elite see the use of a Taxi as an unpredictable factor, as Taxi drivers and their vehicles are not known or expected by the Random Public. This allows the Elite to move around without being spotted. This is especially useful during Actions or Operations.

The Game - This is a general term used to describe the overall concept of the Actions and interactions taking place between two clubs. Everything and everyone is part of The Game at some level, and can be swept into Actions directly or inadvertently. The Game can be seen as an ongoing battle between two or more clubs for supremacy over each other, as well as for all other facets surrounding the clubs. See also: Player.

Top Secret - This is information that the Elite of a club considers to be the most damaging or the most revealing regarding their Operations, Actions or Resources. Only the Elite are privy to know the Top Secrets of their club. The Elite share their Secrets with one another. In this way there are able to pool their Operations, Actions and Resources together for whatever purpose they desire, and one member can pick up where the other has left off.

The Stage - This term can be used in two instances. One: The Stage represents the entire universe and everything in it. This is the location where The Game is played. Two: The Stage can be a particular place, and for the duration of an Action. As an example, the entire world can be The Stage, but during an Action on campus, the high school is also considered The Stage.

The Word - Simply, this stands for accurate news, or legitimate Orders.

Trespasser - A Trespasser is a person or persons who deliberately step(s) into The Game to try and disrupt it, or to gain information on members or Resources of a club, as opposed to a Pawn who ends up in the middle of things by an accident of circumstance. Since a Trespasser may see or learn something that can possibly harm the integrity of the club, they are always dealt with in a quick and severe matter. Not only are massive Actions called and massive Resources used during the attempt to thwart a Trespasser, but Actions will also continue against the Trespasser even after the person has been successfully repelled. Actions against Trespassers are nearly always hinted at or revealed to the Random Public, in order to give second thoughts to any persons considering becoming Trespassers in the future.

Vendetta - A Vendetta may be called against a member of the Random Public who has somehow brought about dissatisfaction or resentment from a club member. Elite members can have personal Vendettas, in which they act alone against someone, or they can ask one or more members of the club to join their Vendetta. Wannabes may also request that a Vendetta be brought against someone. Once a Vendetta has been started, only the Elite or Wannabe who first called it can declare that Satisfaction has been achieved. Satisfaction must be stated to all persons participating in the Vendetta, as other persons may be conducting their own covert Actions and using Resources during this time. Vendettas are exponentially more severe than typical Actions.

Wannabe - This term applies to persons wishing to join a club, and who are placed under a long period of observation to test their loyalty and commitment. Wannabes are expected to jump when told to jump, and to provide, without question, all manner of assistance to their club's Elite. The term Wannabe is a form of rank comparable to enlisting as a recruit in a military organization.
