Learning to Jump

It's been a long day as John Doe arrives home from work. Glancing at the clock John notices that it's slightly after 10PM, a relatively early day compared to the chaos of his job the last few weeks. It wasn't always like this; working a desk used to mean a nice 9-5, but lately there never seems to be a break in the work.

Preparing meals this late has become routine. Walking to the sink, John notices it's filled with dishes - remnants of the meal his wife had eaten hours before. "Just once I wish Sara would learn to pick up after herself." He thought aloud. There was a time when John thought Sara was perfect, but work had taken its toll on their lives, and it was beginning to show. Sara's cheerful demeanor had shifted, she'd become lazy and combative. It was easier now to go to sleep than to work through problems. "How did we get to this?" thought John. "I wish I could get away from it all... HELL, I'D GO ANYWHERE!" he exclaimed, smashing his fist against the counter with a "thud!". "Shit" John whispered "I've got to keep it down, I don't want another fight."

Little did he know that night his life would change forever. As he awoke the next day and opened the front door he noticed an envelope bound to his morning paper. Opening the envelope he was shocked to find a letter, which read:

"John Doe, I have heard your prayers. Granted to you is the power to shape the very fabric of your existence. Simply touching another individual and reciting the phrase "walk in my shoes" will cause your souls to transition between yourselves. Will you use this power for good, or for evil? Enjoy the possibilities..."

John wrestled with the idea, "Surely this has to be a joke... but maybe I'll just hold onto this for later." And with that, he put the note in his pocket.
