Making the cut

Kim Johnson was an unremarkable boy. 5 foot 4, 112 pounds, long, stringy blonde hair. A straight A student, his only talent was cheerleading as the school mascot.

His mother worked constantly, so she was hardly ever home. His father had passed away when Kim was very young.

Summer was coming to an end and due to his mother’s job, he was forced to start at a new school.

Dressed in skinny jeans and an over sized shirt, Kim made his way into the school amongst the other students.

His ID opened his locker as well as tracked his location around the school. Due to a computer glitch, I didn’t contain all his information. The system would automatically update it throughout the day.

Classes came and went. The computer sending bits of info to his ID based on the class he was in.

Kim has noticed several flyers posted in the school mentioning cheerleading tryouts at the end of the day. Not wanting to miss out, he grabbed one and put it in his backpack.

The day came to an end and he hurried to the gym, not wanting to be late.

It wasn’t unusual for him to be the only guy, since most guys would rather try for sports.

Kim stood in line and waited until he was handed a stack of papers. Casually looking them over, he filled his name in where required. They were taking applicants for all positions, but he didn’t see one for mascot, so he marked “special” on the form.

When his turn came, be performed perfectly. Several of the girls complimented him, not realizing he was a boy.

When tryouts ended, everyone was headed into the girls locker room. Caught up in the crowd, Kim couldn’t help but follow along.

The computer noted that Kim entered the girls locker room and thus tagged his ID as female.

“Gather round everyone,” said the coach.

“You all did a wonderful job! Unfortunately we can’t take everyone on the team.”

This brought about a sense of fear in the crowd.

“I just want you to know that I’m proud of the school spirit you all have shown!”

This brought a cheer from the group.

“Now, I want you all to congratulate each other before you head home. The list of those who made the team will be posted first thing in the morning.”

Kim and the rest of the potential cheerleaders all hugged and wished each other luck before leaving the locker room and heading home.
