Murla

Setup:

The world of Murla is home to many inhabitants of all walks of life and of all races. After the fall of the Valation Empire at the hands of the Northern Coalition the world has seen a new age of prosperity as the dark forces of the Empire scattered into the wilds and for now peace rules the land, yet even scattered as they are the forces of the once powerful Valation Empire plot and scheme to destroy their mortal enemies in the North. Will you defend the mighty and righteous Northern Collation or will you take arms with the dark powers of the Empire and strike terror in the heart of the North?

Major Races:

Gnoll: One of the first races created by the dark magisters of the Empire, Gnolls are fierce and deadly scavengers and were used extensively to ambush and destroy Coalition caravans. Gnolls are naturally skilled with archery and their smaller frames made them excellent scouts able to live off the land during long trips. Many now roam the western forests in small tribes raiding caravans and hunting to survive.

Orc: Orcs were the next race that was created by the magisters of the Empire and were used as heavy shock troops to assault fortified positions. Their ability to breed quickly and their limited intelligence made them ideal cannon fodder to protect the more valuable forces. The Orcs have been forced to the southern plains where they congregate in large war bands fighting amongst each other.

Ratling: One of the final creations of the magisters before the Empires destruction Ratlings are small, clever and dangerous in the right conditions. Used as assassins and spies by the Empire Ratlings are talented with both blade and bow and their small quick stature makes them excellent thieves. Many now infest the sewers and alleyways of the larger cities.

Human: Humans are the most numerous and prosperous of the many races of Murla being a major force in both the Empire and the coalition. Humans are an adaptable and hardy race that are able to fit comfortably into most roles. Humans control most of the large cities but have spread out in smaller towns and villages.

Elves: Long lived and wise the Elves of the forest are known for their incredibly long lifespans and powerful magic. Despite their lack of numbers they make up for it with powerful magics and wisdom. A majority of the Elves live in the wilds and forests but there are populations of elves that live in the larger cities and towns.

Dwarves: Dwarves are a short and stocky people that prefer the subterranean areas of the world where they may mine and craft in relative peace. Dwarves are known for their master craftwork and impressive technological achievements that aided the coalition in its victory. Many Dwarves live in the caves and mines of their ancestors although many can also be found selling their wares in large settlements.

Minor Races:

Lizardmen: Uncommon in most of the world the Lizardmen are a rare an often unwelcome sight as they are known to raid many of the caravans that pass through the eastern desert. Ferocious and skilled fighters the Lizardmen are quick on their feet and deadly with their signature curved blades.

Demons: While a powerful and often devastating force during the war the forces of the demonic are very rare and often are hunted down soon after they are summoned.

Drow: The Drow often called dark elves are a subterranean sub species of the elvish race created by the dark magics of the Empires magisters. Most of the Drow live in small communities living off of what they can steal or pillage from the Dwarves.

Factions:

Valation Empire: Also called the Southern Empire, the Valation Empire was ruled by the immortal tyrant who sought to conquer the world through dark magics and vile pacts. The Empire conquered near all of the south before the Formation of the coalition and the ensuing war that toppled the Empire.

Northern Coalition: A loose alliance of Humans, Elves and Dwarves that combined forces to destroy the Empire. Since the end of the war the coalition has largely remained the same although many wonder if the already loose alliance will continue to stand
