Nightmarization

Author's notes:

Hi everyone and thank you for taking the time to look into the story I'm writing.

In the beginning, I want to set a few expectations:

1.) English is not my native language, so please keep that in mind. I'll try my best to proof-read and spell-check my writing, but I'm always open to suggestions on how to improve things. Also, I might lack the proper way to fully express myself;

2.) this story will touch some darker themes at points, so it might not be your cup of tea;

3.) as of now, there's no set finish goal, so the story will continue;

4.) you'll find that some of the ideas here feel familiar - that's because I was/am influenced by some other things I've read in the past;

5.) I might do a bit of branching, but probably not a lot of it. I won't, however, impose the Game mode - you're free to "undo" your actions as much as you want without any penalties.

***

The Void. As the name implies, it's a cold and dark place empty of everything other than yourself. Or, maybe, it'd be more correct to call it a state? You're really unsure about the nature of it, although it's been your home for such a long, long time. You hate every moment you have to spend here, eager to return to the kingdom of living, to wreak havoc, to study their technologies, to rule over the weak... Or to sate your cravings in any other way you see fit.

You keep thinking about your past incarnations, about things you've done, about the acts you've committed. You've been an inquisitor and burned witches at stakes. You've been a serial killer - Jack the Ripper, although you never liked that name much - and taken lives that way. As you grow your power based on the number of emotions you're consuming, you're now considering following a more mixed path - of both pain and pleasure. The longer you toy with the idea, the more you're starting to like it. Besides, it's not like you'll lose much if you give it a go.

However, even though you're a powerful and immortal nightmare being, you need to wait and find your opening to go back. You prey on weak souls who might not feel attached so much to their mortal bodies anymore so that you can consume them and take over their place, although you never know where exactly you'll end up before taking the journey. Not that it ever stops you from taking the chance, of course.
