Pokémon: Sweet and Salty

“Hello, I am Professor Pine, and you are in a wonderful part of the world called Amus. In this world, you might find lovely little, or big, creatures called Pokémon.” Professor Pine said cheerfully as a Machoke was revealed from behind a curtain. “While mostly everywhere else, Pokémon are seen as pets and participants to battle with, here, not so much. In Amus, Pokemon are treated as near-equals, and most of them seem to have the ability to speak our language too!”

“Many say this is from a legend that long ago, one of the founders of this land, an archeologist, saw the legendary bird Ho-Oh, and their deepest wish, to understand the Pokémon language, came true.” Pine said, stopping to let her assistant speak. “Hey, I’m Gigit, a Machoke.” She said, to prove Pine’s point. Pine continued. “That wish has been supposedly brought down through generations upon generations worth of people, and now, anyone who’s been born here seems to be able to speak their language too, while foreigners seem to just hear them say their species’ names. How peculiar it must be to just hear the same gobbledegook over and over again...”

“Anyways, most Pokémon that live on this island are not contained by Pokéballs, oh no no, but rather, are immune to being caught by them by the work of an unknown force, presumably an all new legendary yet to be found! For your own consideration though, finding and capturing a Pokémon with a Pokéball is usually considered slavery unless both parties consent to it. Oh wait, haha, I forgot to ask the most important question! So, before we continue and you go into your new life as a ‘Pokémon Trainer’... What are you?”
