Pokegirls: The Rippa Conflict

The Linto region isn't where it began, but it is where it ended for the pokegirls.

Few alive today can still remember back when the pokegirls lived in relative peace amongst us. And only the books could recall when scientist had first discovered the female womb's secrets for D-Rad, or DNA rapid adoption.

For those interested, we had learned that the future wasn't the man-made designer DNA that most sci-fi writers dreamt of. Instead, cells were modified to produce their own internal CRISPR DNA strains - these internal cell factories proved much more dynamic and potent. Each successive female generation bred new and unexpected gene adaptions.

And for those less interested, girls got really cool powers.

Both the academics and other concerned parties began cataloging these changes into groups such as fire, poison and psychic, to name a few. While most had kept their humanity and resemblance, a small number were not so fortunate.

At first, there were good times to be had. Celebrations and festivals were held, amazing stories of rescue during natural disasters. Many rejoiced it as the next stage in human evolution... still others considered it blasphemous to nature itself. And as the second and third generations of girls grew even stronger, the tides of public opinion inevitably turned into fear of the other, fed through panic for profit. The cultural and military war that followed to suppress pokegirls would later be known in Linto as the Rippa Conflict.

We won't go through the details of the war now, but lets just say that it was a short and brutal affair. The Pokegirls had largely held to non-violent protest to avoid reinforcing the fear mongering. But the larger society did not fight with such impediments.

The impact to culture and law following the conflict has had lasting effects since their defeat. Starting with the most human of rights, breeding with pokegirls had become highly illegal. Afterall, the powerful order of men who ran the world knew the value of a good attrition. A trail of tears was also established to uproot the girls from their homes, relocating them to new regions where their lack of both language and shared culture sealed their fate as pariah in the community.

But the real shift came with the legalization of the underground sport of pokegirl battles. Many grew rich as tickets sold in mass - Trainers became the patriotic rock stars of their time, earning enough to fuel the growth of stadiums, battle circuits and even video game licensing with limited edition collectible cards. Regulated Trainers went around capturing escaped and wild girls, becoming masters of their feared enemy.. those perceived fears valid or not.

But our story takes place a generation after the war, where the pendulum of public opinion swings yet again. This generation feels sympathy towards the pokegirls and is beginning to reject the premise that they are to be second class citizens. While they idolize trainers and believe in battles as they were raised, a movement for pokegirl rights and respect is beginning to flourish across universities and within the youth.

We now join our adventurer as they play their own role in this grand tale, writing the new history of the pokegirls.
