Possession

(Author's Note: Be sure to read the full description before starting this chapter.)

Luke woke up feeling cold and unwell, but knowing in order to keep his apartment he would not be able to call in to work, already on thin ice with his managers. Having no interest in higher education, he opted to get a job with low pay and live in an apartment, away from his family. The 19 year old Luke crawled out of bed, with an uneasy feeling in his gut. Not a feeling of illness, but a feeling of fear. Turning off his alarm which read a quarter to 8, and his shift being 8:30-5, he decided that he had time to take a brief shower before getting ready for his shift. The shower warmed him up, but something was bothering him. He had the feeling as if he was being watched, but he knew this was impossible as his apartment was on the basement level of his building, and the windows were nearly impossible to look through without some serious parkour skill. Ignoring the feeling, Luke got dressed, gathered his belongings, and set off for his commute to work. Living a 10 minute walk from the grocery store he worked at, he walked there every morning. The route there was simple, essentially a straight shot from his apartment. Upon arriving to the grocery store, he started walking around the building to enter the employee entrance in the back. Walking through the alley leading to the entrance, Luke noticed that the feeling of unease was getting stronger. He broke into a brisk jog as the fear continued to grow, before everything suddenly went black.

Luke was slowly beginning to regain consciousness, overcome by terror and confusion. He noticed that he still could not see, or feel for that matter. Utterly confused, Luke lay there alone. In the dark. Unable to move or see, he was forced to do nothing but lie there, awaiting the moment that something, anything, would happen. He waited for what felt like hours, before suddenly he heard a whisper. A sinister yet calming voice spoke to him.

"Give in to your desires, Luke. The world has wronged you. You lead a simple life, but you deserve so much more."

The simple line shocked Luke. He was unable to speak, unable to see, unable to feel, but he could hear. He no longer felt fearful, the voice speaking to him, which he had not recognized as either male nor female, had somehow calmed him completely. He was still incredibly confused, however.

"Take this gift which I have given you and change your life, change the world."

The voice sent shivers down his spine.
