Rough Flight

As John settled into his narrow seat, he hoped no one else would be filling the only seat next to him. It was already a small plane, but in order to cram two more seats and make more money, the airline removed the bathroom at the end of the plane, reasoning a plane of this size only needs one bathroom anyways, and put two seats where it used to be.
This meant that not only were there no seats across the aisle, only an emergency exit, but as John quickly realized the seats didn't even have an armrest between them.
At first he thought this was just one more reason to never fly with this airline again, but then thought about the fact that if he was lucky and no one booked the seat next to him, the missing armrest offered the opportunity of getting more comfortable for his long flight.
As the announcement that the cabin doors were closing rang out through the metal tube, John looked up to see that he was-
