Senior Week

It was the end of senior year for a group of nerdy teens in a small school in rural Pennsylvania. And, like most students reaching the end of senior year, they were very ready to be beyond high school and moving into college and on with the rest of their lives. But first came many things that usually happen during the last few months of school. The senior class field trip, the day to the pool that the senior class president convinced the school to allow, the senior prank, a couple musicals and even a male parody of Miss America. Most of these things meant nothing to the group of nerds though. They were way too invested in their studies to care. The were happy with the pool day though. But the biggest thing happening in the last few weeks of school was planning for the legendary senior week. One of the dreams that many high school seniors have. An entire week, or maybe more, of hanging out somewhere cool with your friends, normally getting absolutely trashed and meeting other high school seniors from around the country. Sometimes meeting them a little more intimately than just a little friendship. And in this school especially, if you were discovered to not be planning any kind of senior week at all, you became the laughing stock of the entire student body. And so, our group of nerds that rarely talked to anyone outside of their group of eight, found themselves planning a senior week (aka sweek) amongst themselves to spare themselves even more bullying.

"What are we doing for senior week guys?" Jacob asked being the de-facto leader of the group since they had formed way back in kindergarten when they realized that the eight of them did not fit in with the rest of the kids because they actually cared about being educated.

"I don't know and I am not even sure we need to plan one. I mean, aren't we doing it just to avoid being bullied more? We are graduating at the end of the week, what does it matter?" Donald said as he followed Jacob down the lunch line in the cafeteria.

"I mean yes, but you know Donald, we could actually plan one for us to just hang out as friends. I think it would be fun." Brenda chided Donald for being a downer once again.

"But it is so much money to spend to just do something we do all the time anyway." Donald continued as he grabbed a pizza that looked like it might have been made in the 60's. With a grimace, he plopped it on his plate before sliding down to the desserts. "Oh look, more fruit for desert." He continued rolling his eyes dramatically, "Geez, I miss the days of having ice cream with school meals. At least it was something that tasted good."

"Yes we do hang out all of the time but this is likely a one time experience that we won't have again. I mean, people like us only graduate high school once." Mia joined in from the lunch line about four people behind Donald.

"Mia. C'mon. Don't sound so judgy about graduation. But she does have a point Donald. We all know that we are going to make it which means we won't have another senior week." Aaron popped in from in front of Mia.
