Sports Legend

Jeff hadn't always been an athlete. Hell three years ago, he had never played a sport outside of the mandatory minimum requirements of gym class. And Jeff had been average at best. He wasn't particularly coordinated. He wasn't particularly athletic. He wasn't particularly sports savvy. Jeff wasn't even particularly bigger than the rest of his peers. Jeff was a late middle pick in any draft for any sport because he was average enough to just scrape by above the truly bad at sports.

Then he hit a growth spurt.

Jeff went from 5'10" to a lanky 6'9" in one year. It was painful and awkward at first sure, but the benefits were soon evident. He excelled at sports without trying. People respected him before he opened his mouth. In essence, Jeff became a high school god. Peers and teachers lobbied for him to join teams, which he did. By the time, he became a bit of a legend as both a wide receiver in football and as a center in basketball, especially as he gained greater coordination and skill from rigorous practice.

The attention was amazing, especially from cheerleaders and female athletes. Attention he had not previously had was suddenly his for the taking. Of course, Jeff relished the attention and made out with multiple different cheerleaders in his grade eleven year. It was in his grade twelve year that Jeff really began to long for a little something more.

Going into his grade 12 year, Jeff was a highly touted recruit for division one colleges in both sports. His eighteenth birthday rolled around right before the final game of playoffs. Jen, a female basketball player he had an eye on, was there. She was a gorgeous blonde with curves for days and thick pouty lips. One of his teammates did a flip off a second story balcony and landed it, much to the delight of everyone, including Jen. Not to be outdone and desperately wanting to impress his way into Jen's pants, Jeff followed suit. He felt his left knee buckle as hit the ground.

Jeff's team lost the finals.

Just like that, Jeff lost all of his division one offers and had to resort to playing basketball for a division three school. He still got his full ride, but it wasn't the same. He couldn't garner the same respect and attention as he could have playing for a division one school. He really came into his own that freshman year putting up 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists at the power forward slot. These numbers were practically ignored by the broader sports community despite his teams unprecedented success. He had given up every other area of his life in pursuit of gaining the attention of NBA scouts, yet it didn't seem to matter.

Jeff willed his team to success time and again to get a record of 19 and 2 when they finally match up against Oregon State, a division one school with an nba prospect at his position. A game that Jeff had had marked in his calendar months ahead in hopes of improving his draft stock for the NBA.
