The Kali Diary

“Are you sure you’ll be fine, Dad?” The voice of her daughter, Blake, was filled with worry.

“Yes, I’m sure, sweetheart. I used to be Huntsman, so making my own food is no problem.” Ghira spoke with a positive tone, a direct opposite of his current situation.

“Well, if you’re sure. I have to go and continue my workout, dad. I’ll come by and visit sometime. Take care!” With a quick farewell of his own, Ghira ended the call with a heavy sigh.

For the first time in decades, Ghira was lonely. While he had spent time being with himself in commutes and trips across Remnant before, someone was always waiting for him back home. Now, as the large man sat by himself in the living room, the house felt emptier than it was. Her daughter was never home these days, since she was a Beacon learning how to become a huntress, and now, his beloved wife Kali, was gone too.

Kali was the love of his life. Even if it was months after the divorce, Ghira was still confused as to why she left him.

It happened in an instant. After coming home from spending months away on a summit for Faunus leaders of all kingdoms, Kali told him that she was leaving him. Ghira was understandably upset, since he was expecting a sweet welcome and not a sour goodbye.

And now, all Ghira can do was to keep himself busy, for if he distracts himself with work, the less time he has to spend moping under the loneliness of the cold, empty home. He would often find ways to avoid coming back to his house, away from the constant reminder that he was to sleep alone this night and the next.

When the sudden sound of the door knock echoed throughout the home, he willed himself to stand. Putting on a welcoming expression, he opened the massive wooden door as he prepared to welcome the guest.

Only to find that there was no one there.

Scanning the immediate surroundings, a pang of caution from his years of being a warrior sparked, thinking that this is some sort of trick or an attempt on his life. When no gunshot reached his keen senses and nary a villain in sight, He relaxed, only to find a small parcel right next to his feet.

Ghira cautiously examined the box, hearing no ticking apart from the sound of plastic scratching together. The box was light, but the slight weight indicated that there was something small was inside. Seeing nothing attached to the cover, he opened the small container, finding a small thumb memory card.

As he booted up his scroll, he saw that it contained hundreds of video files, ranging from minutes to hours. He was alerted that they were all named with her Kali’s name, from KALI-001 to a hundred more. With a shaky resolve, he picked a file.
