The Legacy of Rayne

Chapter 1

The Beginning of Salvation

As I lay on the ground I felt weak, I felt useless, like my will to do anything had vanished along with any hope I had left. Mother told me to hide, I was always good at doing that but she never told me what would really happen or what It meant for me. That day would be the last day I would ever hear her or my father say my name ever again, father always let me wear his pendant, he said I was his greatest treasure after all. I never truly knew what It meant but I would find out later what I had been missing all along. My life up until this point had been a joyous one, yes we lived on a farm and we had very little but what we had got us by together no matter what. I had no idea how cruel this world really was and what was waiting for me that day but it changed my life forever.

I laid under the floorboards of the old little cabin we called a home and I could just about see my mother and father scrambling about trying to barricade the front door, mother was scared and out of breath trying not to panic but the fear in her eyes told me a different story. She knelt to the floor as tears started to erupt in her eyes, “Rayne.. baby no matter what happens you must stay quiet, please.. you have to stay quiet for me and papa” she placed her hand on the floor to try and reassure me through the floorboards. My heart pounded in my chest and my hand reached up to try and touch hers “Ok mommy..” I whispered. “Good girl” she nodded and smiled at me still looking very scared and trying to put a brave face on. My father fought against the men trying to bash their way into the door, he held himself against it and with every bit of strength he had he struggled to keep them off.

My father's red crimson eyes looked towards my mother as she stood in panic and silence, he knew it wasn’t long before they found there way in. “Rosanna.. Forgive me” my father said before taking a step aside letting the door cave in, he grabbed his farmer's pitchfork and ploughed it forward skewering one of them as they charged in. My mother screamed as soon as he went forth to fight them off, “Indra nooo..” she screamed then put her hand to her mouth crying. My father was forced back into the door as they pushed his fork away and came into the cabin. He walked backwards with his hands out to protect my mother, four men pushed through and held them back with swords. “Take me.. let my wife be.” my father begged them his words stuttering a little with fear and desperation now as he protected her.

The four hostile men growled and came closer as they were forced into a corner, my mother tripped over a stool as she clambered to the floor, the wood thumped loudly as she cried into the floorboards. “Please.. Spare us.. “ she cried and pleaded looking up to them now at their feet. The one towards the front laughed and smiled evilly as he brought his sword up high and started to plunge down towards her, my mother screamed and closed her eyes shaking with fear and panic as the blade got closer. One minute my father was begging now he was running to aid her, he dived on top and cradled her close as the blade slid into his back and through the both of them. Shock and pain ran through their bodies as my father kissed her cheek and cried “You’re not alone my love.. Now we can be together..” he put his hand on the floor and whispered. “Take our hearts forth young one..” he closed his eyes and went limp on her shoulder as my mother poured her heart out in tears, she stared down into the floor and kissed the floor. “We love you.. never forget that.. “ soon enough she too went limp as the blood from both of them seeped into floorboards, almost like it was raining the droplets of blood covered me as I panted heavily and silently put my hand to my mouth.

They were dead, just like that. The two people I once called mama and papa were gone from this world and there was nothing I could do to stop it. I was weak, I was powerless and completely lost for words. Their blood covered me and all I did was stand and watch as they took everything we had and searched for anything of use. In the meantime I heard one of them say “Hey didn’t they have a child?” he asked cautiously as another blew him off and said “Pfffft.. that kids probably long gone, stands a good chance they set it free before we got here.” he shrugged in his reply and grabbed what he could before they all left. I stayed silent like my mother told me and I didn’t move until night had struck, climbing out of the secret hole in the corner I slowly walked over to where they lay and knelt down, I lay down between them one last time. I hugged them and held them close to me, I let the tears flow as I hugged them in silence until morning had broken.

Never in my life was it this hard to say goodbye but I couldn’t stay, I knew I had to move on and find my own way. I knew destiny had things in store for me and It was time to let that pain inside me fill my never ending hatred for humanity. I stood there blood soaked looking down on them as I prayed for their happiness in the next life, I shook my head and vowed to never be this helpless again. “I will grow big and strong papa.. I will mourn for no one mama.. I will find them and I will make them pay.. with their blood.” I clenched my fist as It fueled me deep inside, my sorrow turned into hatred and revenge as I walked away into the dreary morning sun. The clouds were dark and the sky was grey, my heart had sunk as the rain started to hit my face. It hid my tears and the sorrow I felt as I walked this lonely path into darkness, I knew this was my only way forward and It didn’t scare me. A whole new feeling consumed my body as the rain revealed a new Rayne, one foot in front of the other my journey was only just the beginning.

Blood.. cover me

Rain.. consume me

Hate.. control me
