The human made of water

The following few chapters are setting up the plot. Feel free to add on after the origin chapters are over...

"Analyzing." A man over the speaker said aloud. His booming voice echoing throughout the room the subject was in.

"Sir subject's vitals seem to be stable for now." A woman replied, worried about what would happen if their superiors found out about them forgoing their explicit instructions not to conduct this experiment.

The researchers had a breakthrough of massive display, a gene in human DNA that could explain why the human body had a large portion made up of water on a new cellular level. Their theory was that as humans evolved from apes, the apes must have in turn evolved from some form of fish. And the end result was a gene that remained in ape DNA all the way to human beings. So if one could unlock this gene on a cellular scale, it would rewrite our DNA to become the next stage in human evolution: a new race capable of living on ground and sea. The scientific community could excel in marine biology if humans could breathe underwater, aquatic homes could solve the housing crisis. Mass amounts of data could be captured if we could live in the ocean, the possibilities were endless. But the board of directors weren't so keen on the idea. 'It would be unethical' they said, 'only a fool would want to disrupt the Eco system of the sea' they said. But that didn't stop the two of them to finalizing their testing chamber and finding a willing volunteer to become the first in the new generation of humans.

The test subject was submerged in the large pool they had created for this experiment, a breathing tube and multiple wires ran across the chest to ensure that nothing went wrong before the main event. The male scientist pulled on the lever to inject the chemicals into the water to begin transmutation of the cells prompting the beginning of the experiment. The initial results came back as stable once again as they continued their research.

"Ready for phase two sir." The woman told him.

"Alright then, begin evolution." The man replied.

The devices begin to rumble as the subject feels tingling throughout the body as it starts. Surges of electricity stimulating the brain flow through as the sensors indicate new heightened levels of activity. All seemed to be going well...
