Vivian Laaning Ch. 34

Erica's bruises and welts from Vivian's forceful spanking eventually healed, and disappeared in due course. Vivian's spanking of Erica had been so severe that Erica was unable to sit down comfortably for over two weeks. In the meantime, Erica did obtain a position as a waitress at Larry's Steakhouse across the street from the local Quality Inn. Larry's Steakhouse was a high quality restaurant, which compared favorably to the finest restaurants in the big cities. Her stunning beauty probably negated any reservations, Larry Kowalski, the owner and her employer had in offering employment to her despite having no previous restaurant experience. Mind you, the fact that Larry had enjoyed Erica's charms on a couple of occasions in the past, most likely sealed the deal in hiring her.

Having been a farmer's wife in addition to growing up on a farm, naturally instilled a disciplined work ethic in Erica. Consequently, she proved to be an excellent waitress delighting Larry Kowalski no end. Because of her proficiency, sunny disposition and most likely her good looks, as well, induced the customers she served to be generous in their tips. Therefore her income was remarkably high, and sufficient to ease the apprehension she might have had, in contemplating her planned move to Chicago.

For Vivian, that summer hiatus at the Laaning farm passed uneventfully, with the exception of the occasional lesbian sex with her pregnant sister. Then the middle of August arrived, and Angela Black's wedding to Ralph Peterson was on her social calendar. True to her word, Angela had booked one way (only) air travel from Madison to Hartford, CT for the Thursday before the wedding on Saturday.

Accordingly, she arrived in Hartford around 6:30 PM that Thursday evening. She was greeted at the airport luggage claims area, by Maryanne Merriweather née Black who was holding up the ubiquitous identification airport arrival sign displaying her name on it. Considering the familiarity the rest of the travelers had for their contacts, the sign was probably unnecessary to effect a successful meet. Especially considering, Maryanne was nearly nine months pregnant, and was obviously showing her baby bump. In any case the women hugged each other in a genuine happy embrace as if they had known each other for years.

Maryanne was recruited to meet Vivian and drive the latter to the family villa situated in a sylvan area about twenty miles south of the airport. The home was located on a rural private road which was not frequented by strangers. All the homes on the road were spacious and luxurious, and they were so far set apart, that each resident had a secluded parcel of land, which dissuaded a neighborhood comradery or friendliness.

Maryanne and Vivian got along right from the get go. Angela had intimated that her sisters were staid and stodgy; not the free spirit that she strived to be. After a few minutes of conversation, Vivian deduced that Angela's sisters, certainly Maryanne for sure, equaled Angela in animated and buoyant temperament, but the same was tempered down in their public comportment. The disparity in such outward public display of their personalities were evidently influenced by their father.

Both Lisa and Maryanne had finished their schooling, and had married while their father was still alive; but Angela was still in high school when that melancholy event occurred. Thus Angela had the chance to rebel against her father's domineering ways, which obviously did not avail for her sisters. As Angela had freely admitted if her father had not died, she would have been attending Radcliffe or Wellesley or the like, instead of UW. And she certainly wouldn't be marrying Ralph Peterson, who her father no doubt would have considered a country bumpkin from flyover country, and a stutterer to boot!

Maryanne and Lisa were in charge of the bridal shower, that would commence in a few hours, and would be held in the spacious living room of the Black estate. As Maryanne outlined the agenda, Vivian breath was taken away by the raunchy proposed program. This information immediately negated any preconceived notion Vivian might have had, that Angela's sisters were steadfastly uptight and prudish. She ventured to ask Maryanne:

"I presume that you did not have this type of a bridal shower before your wedding?"

Maryanne hooted in laughter:

"No indeed! Otherwise, my father would have suffered his heart attack even earlier than when he actually did. In any case, once he would have gotten wind of such proposal he would have stopped it from happening for sure. So this kind of a bridal shower would have been out of the question.

"But since he is gone, Lisa and I are pleased as punch to provide such a wild night before our sister's nuptials. There will be twenty guest ladies, including my mother and her sister, our aunt of course. Believe it or not, but these two old crones have no objection to participating in the entertainment planned for the evening. From what Angela has told me about you, I think I can safely assume you would be a willing participating guest, as well?"

Vivian giggled as she replied:

"You betcha! I'm certainly not adverse to such entertainment. I'm glad then to realize that my gift for this shower is appropriate, and should be well received."

"Oh! Pray tell what is your gift?"

"It's a red colored pegging strap-on dildo."

Maryanne now burst out in full laughter as she replied:

"Oh my God! I can see now why Angela has chosen you for her Maid of Honor, even though the two of you haven't known each other for too long a time. Have you two gotten it on then? I know that my sister has had some lesbian liaisons."

"I'm not a girl who kisses and tells."

Maryanne laughed even louder at this response. She managed to observe:

"Oh my, Ms Vivian Laaning! You seem to be a delicious tart. If ever I'd want to venture on to the dark side, I don't think I could do much better than enjoy your charms."

Before Vivian could answer in kind, they had arrived at the Black estate, and the conversation was suspended momentarily. Maryanne led Vivian to the room, she was to occupy. Vivian unpacked, and hung up her bridesmaid dress, which had survived the airplane relatively wrinkle free. Maryanne gasped in stupendous surprise at its luxuriant style. She had to ask:

"If you don't mind my asking, Vivian, but how much did you pay for this dress?"

Vivian actually blushed as she indeed thought she had overly splurged in creating this dress. So she hesitatingly replied:

"I believe the materials cost me around $300, and I hope its not too ostentatious. Angela seemed to have given me a carte blanche as to what kind of dress I should wear. So I confess I might have gone overboard."

"You spent $300 on this dress? Where in heaven's name did you find a shop that would sell this dress for such a low price? Of course, I'm aware that the cost of living in Wisconsin must be lower than in Connecticut, but still the disparity in the price of formal dresses can't be all that great."

Vivian was at first non-plussed by Maryanne's reaction, but she soon realized that Maryanne thought she had bought a ready made dress. So to clarify, she answered:

"I think you've misunderstood what I've said, Maryanne. I didn't buy this dress at a store. Three hundred dollars is what I spent on materials including appropriate patterns to be able to make this dress. With help from my mother and my sister, I sewed this dress from scratch. I do admit I may have gone overboard with this dress, as usually I can make a decent formal dress for under $100. However for Angela, I felt I shouldn't be parsimonious."

Maryanne almost blew a gasket in reacting to Vivian's carefree response. So she exclaimed:

"Three hundred fucking dollars! That's all you spent? Fuck I forked over $1,500 for my dress and it was on sale at an exclusive trendy Soho boutique. And I thought I was getting a genuine bargain, especially since the dress was alternated for free to accommodated my pregnant body! But looking at your dress, I know you are going to look smashing, whereas with my dress I'll just blend in with the unnoticeable nondescript guests at the wedding."

As Maryanne was quite a good looking woman, Vivian had to laugh at the hyperbole. She responded:

"No matter how inadequate you may feel your dress might be, I'm pretty certain that only the blind will fail to notice you. Your radiant beauty enhanced by your blissful attitude now that you are about to become a mother will surely outshine all the other females at the wedding except perhaps only the bride."

Maryanne laughed some more as she was beginning to be most impressed by Vivian's wit. She now ventured:

"Wow Vivian! You sure know how to boost my vanity and conceit. I think I'm beginning to fall in love with you! I understand that you are intending to go on to law school and become a lawyer. I think if that career does not pan out for you, I believe your fall back position could be as a highly paid seamstress."

Vivian scoffed as she responded:

"I'd make a better farmer's wife based on my upbringing. Sewing was an incidental chore I had to learn, so I always found it as a useful skill to lessen my wardrobe costs. Anyway, I feel a little grungy from the air travel, so I think I'll freshen up with a shower and change my wardrobe for this evening. I think you indicated that tonight's festivities will begin in an hour, right?"

Most likely due to her heritage, Vivian unlike most females her age, was not in the least bit embarrassed, and certainly not at all modest being naked in the company of other females. She had started unceremoniously undressing just before she uttered her last remarks. When she finished speaking, she was almost completely naked, with only her panties to be removed. The latter item was duly removed before there was any additional conversation between them.

Maryanne gasped as her eyes bulged at the sight of Vivian's naked beauty. Like most people Maryanne would not attribute Vivian as having a classically beautiful female face. Nevertheless Maryanne recognized right from the first moment she saw Vivian at the Hartford Airport, that Vivian had a strikingly mysterious, but appealing face. She surmised that there was a certain percentage of males that would get off on her facial features alone.

However there could not be any debate about the rest of Vivian. To Maryanne's mind, she couldn't believe that God had created a more superior female body. Equivalent no doubt, but certainly not superior. Yes, Maryanne could sense that Vivian must be slightly overweight, considering government standards. But opposite to that was the fact that Vivian was extremely tall for a woman, 6'1" tall to be exact. However, if she were to weigh the ideal norm suggested at 144 lbs, she obviously would not be overweight, but for sure she would be skinny and gangly in appearance. These are not usually attractive physical characteristics.

As Maryanne was enthralled by Vivian's beauty, she developed the notion that any artist or sculptor, who could convince Vivian to pose for them, would have to abandon their other models as inadequate for their proposed artistic projects. Now unlike her sister, Angela, Maryanne had not had any lesbian experience to date. In fact, she hadn't even as a young and virginal teenager experimented with her girl friends practice kisses for the purpose of knowing what to do when kissing a boy. But seeing Vivian totally naked inflamed her soul, not to mention her libido.

Now gazing at Vivian's nudity, Maryanne felt an excruciating and electrifying tingle stirring in her vagina, which was steadily increasing in intensity. She was cognizant that here panties were moistening. She could also feel her bloodstream heating up as it was coursing throughout the veins of her body. She flushed from such heat, causing her face to turn into a bright red hue. She was totally discombobulated by the sexual allure of Vivian. Needless, to say she had never experienced such sensations before when seeing another woman, naked. Desperate to get out of a very unexpected suddenly ticklish situation, she stammered:

"Yes Vivian, it's scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM! Taking a shower sounds like a very good idea. I think I'll follow your example!"

With that said, Maryanne fled from Vivian's room. She could not get to her own room fast enough to calm her nerves. In the meantime Vivian, shrugged her shoulders and took no more notice as she got into her shower. After her shower, Vivian chose her red with yellow polka dots sun dress, thinking it would be an appropriate attire for the evening. She then ventured to the living room, having deposited her gift at the appropriate depository.

A fair amount of the guests had already assembled, and within fifteen minutes all twenty invited guests plus the bride were present. A wonderful sparking wine was available from the circulating serving caterers, along with a spectacular array of hors d'oeuvres. The initial formalities of Angel's bridal shower was certainly befitting the expected style of entertainment for upper crust Connecticut society, which the late Mr Black would not have any quarrel with.

An unexpected guest, turned out to be the enigmatic Ms Jennifer Steinberg, née Turner. Per Ralph's insistence, Angela had agreed to invite her to the wedding and the bridal shower. Angela had readily acquiesced, mainly on the basis that she secretly believed that Jennifer would not attend given the distance. As Angela had intimated before to Vivian she harbored perhaps an unjustified antipathy towards this woman. Ralph had been forthright in opining that he had a very high regard for Jennifer. To Angela's mind this was a threat and a rival to her otherwise solid hold of his exclusive affections.

As, Angela had previously outlined, they were intending to pursue a swingers sexual lifestyle in their marriage. Therefore, she would have no issues with Ralph having per force sex with various other women. Such liaisons merely were expected benefits for him of their chosen hedonistic pleasures; just as vice versus for her. She truly believed that such extra marital sex would not have any affect on the actual love and esteem each of them have for each other.

But Jennifer Steinberg, née Turner, was a different kettle of fish. Since she provided a kindness to Ralph totally unexpected during that last year in high school, her attributes had elevated in his mind to an extremely high plane. And Angela knew she couldn't compete with that. Her only hope, as she saw it, was to expose whatever frailties Jennifer might have. After all everyone has some.

Angela had expected that such opportunity to denigrate Jennifer's virtues would avail during the time Ralph would introduce her as his new bride amongst Eau Claire society. In contrast, her bridal shower offered no scope to besmirch Jennifer's character, especially since Ralph was not going to be present. So Angela in the presence of Vivian gritted her teeth as the mystical Ms Jennifer Steinberg née Turner approached her in greeting. The conversation began with Jennifer greeting:

"Hello Angela! I trust I can address you as Angela. I so want to thank you for inviting me to your wedding, as well as this shower. I wouldn't miss it for the world, especially as Ralph was kind enough to attend my own wedding last summer."

Angela was non plussed by this information, so she responded in amazement:

"Ralph attended your wedding last summer? He sure as hell did not mention that to me, when he asked me to invite you to our wedding. From what he has told me about you, is that the two of you had a superficial acquaintanceship during high school."

It was evident to Vivian, who had been previously introduced to Jennifer, and happened to be in on this conversation, that Angela was intent on hearing Jennifer's interpretation or lack thereof of the most important heterosexual event that Ralph had claimed to have experienced in high school. Thus she paid close attention as Jennifer answered:

"Yes that is the most likely true from the perspective of an indifferent observer. In fact, I've no doubt that Ralph only considered me as a pretty girl, not much different from any other. That is why I was so pleased that he accepted my invitation to attend my wedding."

Both Angela and Vivian gasped in absolute surprise. The implication of Jennifer's recitation placed a new spin on Ralph's previous account. It was Vivian who tried to clarify the disparity as she said:

"Forgive me Jennifer, but as Ralph has intimated to me, and for that matter to Angela as well, that it was the consensus amongst your peers that you were considered the prettiest girl in your high school, and certainly the most popular one. So I'm sure you can't be simply a casual high school memory in his mind."

Jennifer sighed as she replied:

"Well, I can understand if most of my high school class mates thought of me as a beautiful bimbo. I surely didn't try to alter such perception at the time. However, as far as I was concerned, Ralph Peterson was the most intellectual, intriguing and interesting male person in our high school. And I say male because he was not a boy in high school.

"Perhaps because he was born in January just like me, I surmise that the two of us throughout our schooling were more mature than our class mates. In other words we were always the oldest pupils in each of our grades. It's also probably the reason I was able to overlook the childish negative reputation, Ralph endured because of his stuttering infirmity. I was also very aware of the prominence of his family in Eau Claire. So as far as I was concerned, for me to be infatuated with Ralph Peterson was as inevitable as the fact that the sun rises from the east."

Again both Angela and Vivian were totally surprised by Jennifer's revelations. It ran contrary to the theme Ralph's account implied. It was Angela then that challenged:

"But notwithstanding all that, you never had a date with Ralph. Why is that, if you profess to have had such admiration for him?"

It was Jennifer's turn to be defensive, as she replied:

"I'm Jewish, which meant that it was drilled into me that I could not even date a non Jewish boy never mind ever consider marrying one."

At this point Vivian, who was always sensitive to ethnic surnames, interrupted, and asked:

"Obviously your married surname of Steinberg is definitely Jewish, but your maiden name of Turner certainly is not generally considered Jewish. Are you telling us you were raised Jewish, nonetheless?

Jennifer replied:

"My mother is Jewish and my father was Catholic when they first met. After a few dates, and realizing he was deeply committed to my mother, he converted to Judaism. They were consequently married by traditional Jewish customs. As a result, I was brought up strictly as a Jewish female with all the attending specifics involved.

"Before you two say anything else, I admit it has bothered me that my mother's parents allowed her to date gentiles, and probably would not have objected to the marriage even if my father had not converted. However, it turned out that my father took his conversion seriously. He could not have been more stricter in parenting me and my younger sister to adhere to all Jewish customs, especial the prohibition of dating gentiles.

"So as I saw it, had I dared to date Ralph while in high school, all hell would break loose at my home. My life would be unbearable. I would have been certainly grounded during the remainder of my high school years. And my sister, who is fourteen months younger than me, would have ratted me out, if I confided to her of any secret forbidden date. She bristled even more than me to the strict non gentile dating prohibition. I think she would have had the naïve belief that exposing my date with a gentile would have forced our father to allow her to date a gentile. I was aware that in her junior year in high school she was madly in love with someone not Jewish.
"Alas then, I had to keep my heart in check. Still there is no denying that Ralph Peterson was the most memorable and interesting male student that I was acquainted with in my high school. For that selfish reason I invited him to attend my wedding last year, and I was thrilled that he came."

Angela and to a lesser extent Vivian were shocked by Jennifer's recital. There seemed to be some conflicting points of view vis à vis Ralph's account of their acquaintanceship. So to provide some clarification, Angela asked:

"Ralph has told me that you two shared a dance at one of your school's social evenings. He further said that you advised him afterwards that you would have loved to have a date with him, but that you were precluded since you were going steady with someone else. Did you lie then? And if so why?"

At this point Jennifer's eyes visibly lit up, as she replied.

"Oh yes the dance! That dance! It was the most blissful and satisfactory romantic evening during my entire high school years."

Now it was Vivian who was totally shocked, and so she could not help but ask:

"But Jennifer, Ralph has told both of us that you were the prettiest and most popular girl in your high school. And I can see by your appearance here, that such assertion can not be an hyperbole. Given that, surely you must have had lots of social outings that offered more potential for hot action than a mere one dance with Ralph? Weren't you the Prom Queen?"

Jennifer replied:

"Yes I was chosen as the Prom Queen, but that would have meant my date would have been the Prom King, who was not Jewish. Since I knew my father would have forbidden the date, I had to advise the school that I had to decline the honor, and another girl took my place. Actually, I did not even attend the Senior Prom, as I had by that time exhausted my list of the three Jewish boys in my high school that I could date.

"I may be pretty, and yes I was popular in high school, but that was only because no one hated me; at least I didn't offend anyone to my knowledge. But the fact remains, that I only had three date outings throughout my four years in high school, and all three of them were disastrous. I was actually despondent as a result.

"It wasn't until I got to attend the University of Wisconsin, that I finally had a decent date with a Jewish male. I soon finally lost my virginity and Sheldon and I were married last summer.'

At this new information, Angela gasped as there seemed an infusion of even more new discrepancies. So she asked:

"You're attending UW? Ralph had indicated to me, that you still live in Eau Claire not in Madison? Obviously my wedding invitation to you was sent to an Eau Claire address."

Jennifer clarified:

"It turns out that my younger sister, Mary, was more of a rebel than me. She did date the gentile boy, whom she was madly in love with, on the same night I had my dance with Ralph. By the way, Mary subsequently confessed to me that she surrendered her virginity that night, which knowledge irked me to no end, since I was still a virgin at that time. The revelation of her rebellion, minus the sexual outcome, was almost immediately discovered by my father, who blew a gasket. He immediately grounded both of us for the remainder of the school year.

"When I protested my innocence, my father replied to the effect that he had learned his lesson. He concluded that obviously he had been too lenient with my sister and me. So to ensure that our family would remain Jewish, the grounding penalty was a necessary precaution. In addition, he advised that I need not look any where else than Eau Claire for my tertiary education.

"I was devastated by my father's edict. It put the kibosh on any plan I could conceive for seeing Ralph in a loving atmosphere. Thus, after the dance I had to pour cold water on any idea that we could possibly date. I believed that if we were to date secretly, the most likely conclusion would most certainly lead to heartbreak for both of us.

"I might add that attending UW at the Eau Claire campus did not turn out so badly for me. I've always wanted to be a nurse, and the College of Nursing at Eau Claire was absolutely excellent. I'm just a few credits short of my BSN degree and I expect I'll get a Masters degree in due course thereafter.

"And of course the major plus for my attending Eau Claire is my meeting Sheldon Steinberg. Unlike my disasters in high school, Sheldon was my true Jewish knight in shining armor. We're compatible in so many ways that after our third date it became a foregone conclusion that we were destined to marry. It did not hurt that my father heartily approved of our nuptials.

"Incidentally, Sheldon's major is Mathematics. He was chosen as the third member of the UW team for the Putnam mathematical competition in the December preceding our summer wedding last year. Sheldon scored in the Top 100 so that he was recognized in the American Mathematical Monthly for such achievement. Of course the shining star in that competition for UW was Ralph Peterson, as he racked up his third consecutive Putnam Fellowship; the only UW competitor to have ever scored even one Putnam Fellowship.

"Naturally, Ralph is viewed as a god amongst mathematical students and faculty community throughout the UW campuses. When I talked to Sheldon about my inviting Ralph to our wedding on the basis of my high school acquaintanceship, he couldn't be more pleased than if I was able to make a realistic invitation to the President of the United States to be a guest. During the wedding reception, Sheldon hogged the conversation with Ralph, that I was left with only offering some minuscule platitudes in thanking him for his presence."

Both Angela's and Vivian's mouths dropped wide open in reaction to the observations of Jennifer. The part about Ralph having admirers amongst a significant number of UW students and faculty were especially astonishing. Naturally since Angela had agreed to marry Ralph, she was well aware of his virtues, but he always underplayed his accomplishments to her. Thus, it came as a true surprise to her to learn, that his successes in the Putnam competitions were so widely acknowledged amongst his true compeers.

After getting over the initial shock, Angela beamed with pride at hearing genuine accolades directed at her intended. However, one thing still bothered Angela, and so she asked:

"Ralph has revealed to me his feelings when he danced with you. I'm curious to know what your reaction was if you don't mind sharing. And I was wondering why you told him afterwards that you had a boyfriend which precluded any dating? Why didn't you simply tell the truth that you were grounded?"

Jennifer told her version of the dance:

"Ah yes back to that wonderful dance! I had just turned eighteen, and so my father had no cause to refuse me. I was allowed to dance with a gentile but not to abuse the privilege and agree to a date. My sister, who secretly had arranged her date, got me to drive her to girlfriend's house ostensibly to just hang out for the night.

"So I got to the dance a little late and it was already jam backed. My hopes were to find Ralph and get him to dance with me. I was feeling despondent since I couldn't spot him in the crowd. A couple of annoying guys did ask me to dance, and I acquiesced in the hopes I could find Ralph on the dance floor, but there was no such luck in that endeavor either.

"Finally, as I was simply standing alone, still looking out for Ralph, when he suddenly appeared! He approached me and asked me for a dance! My heart was aflutter, as my dreams for the dance were realized. The dance was slow, so that we were entwined together as close as possible. My enjoyment of finally being in the arms of the man of my dreams was almost too much. I lost my head in delirium as I know that I was only speaking inanities. My subconscious mind was chastising my conscious mind for acting like a ninny before him.

"Then to my absolute surprise and delight, I could feel Ralph's erection pressed against my thigh! He was actually enjoying my company! I disengaged my left hand to reach for his bulge to ascertain for sure that it was truly his cock I was feeling. It was! And it was so big!

"Oh but then lucky you Angela! You're no doubt aware of that!"

Both Angela and Vivian were dumbfounded, as Jennifer used her hands to demonstrably exaggerate Ralph's penis size. Their collective mouths dropped wide open again hearing Jennifer's saucy tale. And Jennifer continued:

"I then smiled at Ralph, mainly to cover up my reaction to the orgasm that I was experiencing. I could feel that my panties were getting soggy, as my breathing was getting heavy. Finally, as I got a control of my emotions and breath, I winked at Ralph. It was spontaneous as it was the only thing that I could do think of doing that was appropriate given the actual circumstances.

"Luckily the dance was over and I could woodenly walk away from the dance floor. Ralph then left me, and I was paradoxically glad. I was embarrassed. I mean who has an orgasm simply from dancing! I went to the rest room, to gather up a roll of paper towels to place on my car seat to ensure I wouldn't stain the upholstery. I, thus drove home in a very happy disposition.

"The next day our house was in an uproar over my sister's escapades. She was supposed to have been home by 11:00 PM, that night, but she didn't arrive until 02:00 AM. Her story that she was hanging out with the said girlfriend whose house I had left her at the start of the evening, quickly broke down since my mother had phoned that house at 11:30 asking about the whereabouts of my sister. So Mary had to confess she went out on a date with a gentile. Since our parents knew all of the Jewish families residing in Eau Claire, Mary knew she could not brazenly lie that she was out with a Jewish guy. The upshot of course was that I was grounded along with my sister for the rest of the school year.

"To brighten up my woes, on the following Tuesday, I received a thank you card in the mail from Ralph of all things! He actually thanked me for dancing with him! I couldn't believe that he was so thoughtful to send me a card for doing something that I was solely wishing to do. If anything it should have been me that was sending a thank you card."

At this point both Angela and Vivian were skeptical considering their knowledge of Ralph's viewpoint. So Angela interrupted and asked:

"Wait a minute! Are you saying that you are not aware that you were the only girl Ralph danced with that night?"

Jennifer replied:

"Really is that true? All I know is that I did not see Ralph until he asked me to dance, and I immediately left the dance after my dance with him. In any case whatever he did at the dance was immaterial to my feelings or memories. I had taken my panties off when I got home that night, and I deliberatively set it aside, not washing it. I wanted to retain it as a souvenir of my most intense romantic night during my high school years.

"But when I got the card from Ralph, I believed that I would be a mere incidental memory in his mind. As for me, I knew that he was the only male in my high school that I would remember for the rest of my life. So that is why I gave my panties to him, the next time I saw him at his locker at the school. By the way, do you know if he still has those panties?"

Angela answered acidly:

"Oh yes Ralph still has them. He has shown them to me and I've even actually sniffed them. I can attest that they have retained its pungent odor."

Jennifer merely replied:

"Oh is that so? I fear I've taken too much of your time Angela. I know you must circulate and give your other guests the opportunity to greet you. I wish the best for your happiness, and I know you are marrying a truly superior man."

Once Jennifer was out of earshot, Angela turned to Vivian and said:

"You know that I absolutely hate that woman!"

"What? Are you confessing that you're anti-Semitic?"

"No of course not, Vivian. The point is that she is obviously in love with my fiancé, and thus, she is a very dangerous rival."

Vivian answered:

"Oh come on Angela! Surely you're becoming paranoid. After all she is married to another man, and you are marrying Ralph in two days; you're just not dating Ralph. Besides she's never fucked Ralph, whereas I have, but you're not the least bit fearful of me."

Angela replied:

"You didn't read between the lines of her story. She confessed to an infatuation for Ralph in high school despite the fact, even according to himself, that he was a social pariah there. The only reason she did not act upon her love for him was the negative influence of her domineering father. And as you know I can fully understand how hard that is to overcome such an obstacle.

"You will notice that her only compliment she uttered about her husband was that he was a decent tolerable Jew, and her father approved of him. Whereas she showered Ralph with compliments throughout her reminisces of him. You will also notice that she avoided answering my question of why she lied to Ralph to dissuade the possibilities of their future dating."

"Wait a minute! What significance do you attach to that?"

Angela answered:

"I think if someone says they're grounded then there is no scope for exception. But if one says they're dating someone else then there's hope that such liaison will end. I bet she thought that Ralph would contact the other mentioned fellow, and after finding out there was no relationship, that he would pursue her. That he did not, probably disappointed her, as she was no doubt building up the nerve to defy her father. Obviously, she still carried in her heart a torch for him, as she invited him to her wedding. In her own words she confessed that her husband had more of his attention than her, which she implied annoyed her.

"But let's consider the big picture. Ralph's reason for going to the dance was to dance with a girl; any girl would do. Whereas, Jennifer's motive was to specifically dance with Ralph. Ironically she had dances with a couple of other guys, but her rationale was to try and locate Ralph in case he was on the dance floor. That he would be unable to engage any other girl to dance with him, did not enter her mind. She was so much in love with him, that she couldn't conceive that he would be rejected. I'm know she was aware of Ralph's negative reputation at the high school, but it obviously did not distract her from admiring him.

"And one further point! Recall how she told us that she was irked that her younger sister got laid that very night. Ostensibly, her annoyance was due to the fact that she was still a virgin whereas her younger sister was no longer. I don't believe for a second that was what upset her. I think the knowledge that her younger sister had more gumption in defying their father in the name of love was the true source of her bitterness.

"What I fear most is that as Jennifer gets older, her father's grip on her emotionally will lessen. I really do think she will make a play for Ralph when we are in Eau Claire. I'm sure Ralph will resist this first time, but I think once both Ralph and I are finished our education, we ought to consider living somewhere far away from Wisconsin."
