Your New, Loyal "Companion"

Imagine a world where apes weren't the only species that evolved into intelligent, sentient beings. What if Homo Sapiens were also accompanied by Canis Sapiens? What if wolves also developed larger brains, learned to use tools, created language, and walked upright?

Sounds pretty cool, doesn't it? Humans and Wolves walking side by side, forging a prosperous future for all kinds equally.

Well, forget all that. That isn't the story being told today.

In truth, the ancient humans had a head start on the ancient wolf-men. Instead of domesticating wolves, they integrated the wolf-folk into society... as pets and servants.

Fast-forward thousands upon thousands of years, far more than when the world you know developed their bond with "Man's Best Friend." Evolution, guided by the selfish hand of humanity, led the wolf-folk to become smaller, smoother, softer, and totally subservient. These servants were only allowed to be big enough, strong enough, smart enough, to adequately fulfill their purpose to their masters. Controlled, shaped, and manipulated; whatever the natural order could have decided for them was forever lost... but the world now had Dogs.

Today, Dogs, or Canidus technically, are distributed throughout the world via Kennel Academies, where they are trained and prepared to spend their lives in the loving care of Owners, diligently serving their beloved humans as "Companions." Small of stature, short of gait, and simple of mind and heart, you can expect your Dog to love and worship you, happy to perform any task you set upon it.

Any task. Evolution has been kind to these canine companions, and if you feel so inclined to... enjoy your pet, worry not! While it might be a bit uncouth to discuss the subject in public or to be a braggart about it, what you do behind closed doors with your Companion... your property... is entirely your business, within reason.

But don't take their servitude for granted! Canidus are sensitive, sentient creatures, and require your love and guidance to live a full and fulfilling life. You're expected to continue your Companion's training beyond what the rudimentary lessons of the Kennel Academies can provide, specializing them to become something suited precisely to your needs. Keep them happy, healthy, and most importantly, hard-working, and you'll never have to worry about a thing.
